For a single video, the easiest way seems to use MPC or PotPlayer (FFmpeg is also fine, but less easy to use command line obviously)

For lots of videos, bulk making thumbnails scenario, these two programs are pretty good:
      1. Video Thumbnails Maker
All the details of it seems superior to many competing alternatives. the only downside is that thumbnails generated by the free version have random owl logo. (If anyone mind it, →HERE←'s a cracked platinum version. Afraid of trojan? →HERE←'s the scan report or just use offcial free version)

      2. AMT – Auto-Movie-Thumbnailer
Open source! another popular bulk video thumbnails maker.

      3. Other choices: Ezthumb, Thumbnail me, Image Grabber II .NET, MoviePrint…..etc but seems all not as good as the two above.

(have seen one member asking about it, so share them here in case….)

Thank you so much for your generous post.

I would love to support VTM legally but I do not trust the registration process.
The app makes a hash of you computer. You send that string to the author he gives you a registration code.
That same hash could be encoded somehow in to the thumbs you made tracing them back to you.

It's worth checking this one out as well:

              http://videopeek.roundbit.tech/

It's easy to generate thumbnails for single or batch files and also lets you browse the grid "interactively" and jump to certain points. I love it when browsing my collection hahah ♥
It's free for HD videos but you have to pay $5 for 1080p... I couldn't find a crack so I ended up buying and don't regret it 🙂

Thanks a lot for the options. 😁

I used to use thumbnails.me. It's good, but doesn't allow you to make more than 10-12 thumbanils at a time...not to mention it fills your taskbar up with codec files.

Just got an update and apparently, now the free version of the app I mentioned earlier no longer has resolution restrictions.... I couldn't edit the previous post. Check it out

Hey there. None of these are compatible with MAC. Any suggestions?

Video Thumbnails Maker is not available for Mac but there are some alternatives that runs on macOS
                        with similar functionality.

Thanks so much. Has anyone successfully used these? Unfortunately the first one on the list in the link provided actually isn't for MAC iOS. It's for windows. Skreenics will only work for MP4 and the rest on the list are just screen grab applications. The app Thumbs is malware. So I'm back at square 1.
