Could someone recommend a program that can make thumbnails of a video? Not Photoshop, that just seems like a lot of work to get an image that shows the progression of a video preview.

Auto Movie Thumbnailer (free at https://funk.eu/amt/) is especially handy if you want to do thumbnails for a large number of files--just dump the folder into the app and it does the rest. I wish more people would use it on here.

@pmrrk Both VLC and Media Player Classic have embedded thumbnail generators, you just have to open the video, then go to File>Generate thumbnails.
There you can choose how many lines/columns you want and set a resolution of your choice. It also shows the file name, duration, file size and resolution.
