      @TheJimsPlace:

The file I'm attempting to re-seed is somehow .01 GiB off from the one I seeded from, so I'm stuck at 99.9%. Will the requester still see that this is available? (It is fully functioning - I'm not sure what the issue is.)

If you downloaded a single file before and has exact match copy of what you are trying to seed, it will remain 100% completion…
But if the file has any other attachment [like screen caps or pictures] that has been deleted or remove, then it will stays incomplete
and it will not become visible to others…
Unless you will create a new torrent and seed the file that you own...

This has happened to me multiple times and I can't seem to figure out the issue.

I received a reseed request for a file that I uploaded.  When I follow the reseed steps and it should go into "checking" it go into "connecting to peers".  It is the exact file that I uploaded the first time so I don't understand why it isn't checking and reseeding.

        Any clues?

If it is the exact path > file folder name [match copy],
It should seed as long as you point in the right path folder location…
and if not it will established a new peer...

Stop the torrent, remove and delete the torrent [not the file folder]…
Once force-recheck is done it will show 100% completed...

That is the thing, it is not establishing the new peer.  The only thing I can even try to figure is that these were created prior to the new search feature.  I don't know if that would change anything or not but prior to the change, i never had a problem reseeding my torrents, now I can't get any of then too.

@vinoario1 said in RESEEDING!!! A SHORT / CONCISE TUTORIAL about HOW to RESEED!!:

Does it make sense to reseed long dead torrents that no one is leeching?

It depends: is the content good? Lots of lazy, crap uploads out there.

If I reseed a long dead torrent that hasn't any leechers, how do I let people now that I'm reseeding it?

Spend some bonus points to make it freeleech for 24 hours. It will get at least some customers, guaranteed.

Where do I find a list with reseed requested torrents?

Unknown, so I would refer to the first point above: if you think the content is good, then you will find it worthwhile to keep it alive. Your effort, so, your choice / your judgment.

One potential tip for anyone having trouble:

If you happen to be in the fairly rare situation where you're trying to reseed a file from a Windows/Linux machine that was originally downloaded to a Mac and the force recheck doesn't work, the file will need to be reuploaded from a Mac to be reseeded.

Some Mac files still use resource forks... I think MP4s especially. I just had a reseed that was stuck part way through even though the whole file was there after uploading from a Windows machine.

I paused the torrent, deleted the file on my (Linux) seedbox, and reuploaded to the seedbox from a Mac, rechecked again and the recheck completed at 100% and the file is now being reseeded.

                    Hope this helps someone.

@pawpcorn I tried the steps but I get the following message: Torrent 'NAME' is already in the transfer list. Trackers haven't been merged because it is a private torrent.

On the torrent presentation it shows it is no longer visible (dead)

@kukuwi so the torrent being dead means... what?

                        {nobody is seeding it, at the current time}

Hi. Im happy to help out a member by re-seeding a file but Ive changed the name of it - simplified the original name. Will this still re-seed for the member? As it stands, its not doing anything. Ive put the file back into my usual folder but with the name changed slightly. Thanks.

@Pawpcorn Hi, I was asked to reseed some torrents. Before starting torrent check, tracker thinks I want to download files again and block this action due to my low rating. So I can't start reseeding. What should I do? Thanks.

Thus this reseeding only works on utorrent? I am using BitTorrent and downloaded the file again but it is not seeding. Also i got a request for re seed that is why I am reseeding this torrent again.

@lycheejuice if you have to download again, then you don't have the original files in the default download directory.

@jayjay033 reseeding works with any torrent client, but since we can't support the scrape function, you may need to FORCE SEED/START the torrent, in order for it to actually seed (right-click on the torrent and select that option).
                                  uTorrent doesn't have that problem.

@Pawpcorn I'd like to improve my ratio by seeding some torrent video that already exists on the site. And I also have the video file on my hard drive. How can I seed it using the same torrent on the site? Is this even possible?

Note that I can't download any torrent at the moment because my ratio is low.

I know that I can create another torrent for the video, but that'll be a duplicate and this site doesn't like duplicates.

                                      Thanks.

@lmsuon : Yes, it's possible and yes, you can just use the torrent file on the site; you don't need to create a new one. And, in fact, you shouldn't, since you are correct that it would be a dupe.

You would download the existing torrent file, look at the filename of the file it is pointing to, then rename your own file to match.

Next, you would load the torrent file into your torrent app and point it to the folder where your own version of the file is located. The app will scan your file, recognize that all of the pieces are there, and will immediately put the torrent into seeding mode.

If the app starts to download rather than immediately going to 100%, the two most common problems are either that you got the filename wrong or the files really aren't identical. If it's the first problem, you should see two video files in the directory: your own and the one that the torrent is creating. You can copy the filename from the new file, delete it, then rename your own file and start the process all over again.

So, a note on DUPLICATES -

To be a duplicate, the "other" torrent has to be "alive" (that is: at least one seeder or at least one leecher).

If the torrent you're wanting to seed (and see as a potential duplicate) is DEAD (no seeders & no leechers), then upload your torrent as NEW, and send a note to the helpdesk explaining that the old one is dead. A Staffer will delete the old one & let your new one start anew (that is: atop the "latest torrents" board).

The problem with just re-animating (that is seeding a dead torrent) is that you can't get anyone to FIND it! Most people are only looking at NEW torrents... you need that presence at the top of the list to get any action on it!

NOTE: These are my own personal observations - I do not speak for the system owner(s) or Staff... but I've been around here since 2008 - I've learned a thing or two, I have! 🙂

@Pawpcorn I downloaded the link, and put it to download and save in the same folder that I sent to the site, but there was an extra video in the folder. Is there any problem? And how do I check 100% if it's compatible?
