What size/encoding do you prefer??

my personal opinion: I like best quality best. I'm a real quality freak. If I could have a wish I'd like complete DVDs best, regardless of size.

Actually, ISOs are frowned upon here.

single VOB files??? I guess you meant complete VIDEO_TS folders including .IFO and .BUB?
Are ISO files frowned upon because of their size, handling problems, or other reasons?
I like split ISO-files (xxx.I0 xxx.I1 … plus a media descriptor file xxx.MDS). They are up to 1 GB in size (for FAT-Drives) and easy to burn or mount with one or two freeware programs.
I'm currently writing a guide "How to handle ISO- and split ISO-files easily without problems" which I could send you, if size or handling-problems are the only reason ISOs aren't liked here.

I am going to transcode some videos and upload them. What do you think is better? Smaller, lower quality videos (~700-800MB) or larger, DVD quality videos, (1.8-2.5GB videos)??

I would prefer 700-1.2GB videos. I tend to steer away from the big DVDs since they're a pain to seed and it hurts your ratio a lot.

Personally, I prefer if the videos are over 1 GB. Many of the smaller videos suffer from motion distortion.
Of course motion distortion isn't always due to file size. Many times it's because the person that encoded the video played with their computer while the encoding was going on.

Can we agree to disagree? I seeded my last DVD [Chaleurs] about 2 weeks. It brought ca. 14 GB upload and quite a push for my ratio. The only problem I observed is available space on the torrent computer.

Just my 2 centsI would really prefer full vids in ISO-format. Makes burning quite easy. No idea, why they are frowned upon here.
Better still, pack them into multivolume RAR files, each file about 50 MB. As all unrar progs I know will happily unpack them - with one click for mouse fans or a short command for the real guys - handling tem should not be difficult at all.
The big benefit here, should the file prove faulty, all you have to do is create and add a few PAR files to your torrent, and those who have already donwoladed it will only have to get those few additional files. The traditonal way so far is to make a totally new torrent and everyone has to download it completely again. Quite a waste of bandwith.I normally burn ISO-files to a DVD [1] and delete them afterwards. Recreating the ISO is quite easy. Burning VIDEO_TS directories however often results in slightly changed files (at least Nero [2] occasionally does so) which will prevent me from reseeding :-(.
So my proposal and wish is: More ISOs and if possible in RAR/PAR format.
Maybe someone will second me. If the gods of this site agree to ISO-file in RAR/PAR format, I might even feel tempted to write a short guide.Seksa

Pointing out the obvious…
Leave the resolution the same as the origin, encode the video with h.264/x264. Best audio compression is with Vorbis, so using the Matroska container is wise.

I like xvids to be under 1 GB and standalone compatible. If I like a movie, I like a DVD image, but will rarely download these as a first choice.

But one small thing to make sure everyone that will use ISO if Tom allow it. Please never convert the video to .NRG file, it a Nero Burning ROM Image, their own version of .ISO. It really pain in the a** for any Mac User because Nero dont have a mac version for it. It painfully for me to dual boot to Boot Camp Window Xp and reconvert the file to ISO and boot it back to Mac. And im sure for some Mac User dont have Boot Camp will scream and throw their mac to the person who uploading that file. It rare to see .nrg file but it out there in any torrent website. I encountered it a few times and found out it the only file available. Trust me, there is no .nrg converter for mac, i asked many times in any mac forum, their best advice is to use Window to convert it to ISO. If you planning on using Nero to make it a .iso, make sure it is a .ISO, not Nero's ISO.
Forgot to add a few things. OSX cant mount .nrg file and there is no apps for Mac that can mount .nrg.
