      I can't speak to the issue of deleting dead torrents. That question has merit, even if the time needed to execute it, doesn't.

      As far as dead duplicates:

      @Bluesurfer:

      there would be a lot less "dead" torrents and/or duplicates if this was to be done.

      The terms dead and duplicate are mutually exclusive.

      According to the logic of the Uploading Rules an inactive (dead) torrent cannot be considered a duplicate, which is defined as an "existing torrent(s) which has the same format and similar size (<10% difference) and has at least one seeder." Dead torrents have no seeders.

      So gaytorrent marking an upload as a duplicate based on a dead torrent is an issue of staff training, not of site policy.

        I do believe that if you ask one of the moderators they will tell you the you should check both active and dead torrents before uploading any torrent.  Also if you upload a torrent and it is in the so called "dead" state, your torrent can be and will be treated as a duplicate or so I've discovered after having a torrent I uploaded called a duplicate even though the other torrent was defined as "dead".  If you can show me a link to where I can read about the information you provided it would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance.. have a good one  🙂

        Pleased thank everyone for the time they take to upload torrents for our benefit and Have a great day!!!!!

          But do realize that a a dead torrent can become active again once  a user starts seeding it.    So then your upload could get reported as a duplicate, since now the dead torrent is now live again. If it is same file type and size then the the other upload would be a duplicate.

          2nd,   you report a duplicate but the original  goes dead  by time  the mod get to process it.  Well then its not a duplicate if the original is dead.   If  the original is long dead then we try to remove the dead torrent.

          Remember to look for promoted torrents, the ones with the recycle in the title.  The original upload date is moved to the description. I get a lot o reports  missing that .

          Several scenarios could happen,  please just niceiy contact the moderator that completed the report and we  can help figure it out.

          Oh and were always needing  volunteers to help with  torrent duties.  if you would like to volunteer at least an hour a day let us know!

            Thanks for the info, but could you explain what is a  promoted torrents, haven't heard about them.  As for contacting the moderator niceiy I for one believe that when contacting the moderator or other members we should all do this niceiy.  And finely, and don't ask me where I saw this but there was an explanation about user status and a description of attaining each with a little note that said something along the line of "Don't ask us, we'll ask you" when it came to our activities on the site.  Personally, I've always been willing to help if asked!  Have a great day and thanks for your info! :thx:

              Promoted torrents  are torrents that are original in the dupe report that had 1-5 seeders when the report was processed.  The Original upload date gets moved to the description.

                You put in your reply "Oh and were always needing  volunteers to help with  torrent duties.  if you would like to volunteer at least an hour a day let us know!" was what I was referring too.  If help is needed just ask, will be glad to help out!

                  Bluesurfer, there is a thread somewhere asking for volunteers. I think it's from Popper but I can't find it right now.

                  I'm not sure if This Form is still valid

                  🙂

                      Both states should be searched for (active and dead): Active ones are sought so as to discourage uploading a duplicate. Inactive ones so that they may be removed or promoted.

                      @junior:

                      But do realize that a a dead torrent can become active again once  a user starts seeding it.    So then your upload could get reported as a duplicate

                      That is why the correct sequence of events is (1) the presumptive uploader holds the uploading of his torrent in abeyance until (2) his report of the inactive version is dealt with, at which time (3) the uploader may commence seeding its promotion or uploading its replacement. Any uploader following this exact sequence will never receive a duplicate warning.

                        Mind you it seems easier just to check the active torrents. If nothing is found, post away and if it's a duplicate, so be it.

                        At least that is one step better than many of the uploaders do now  😉

                          Re: "I would like to see a lot of these "dead" torrents buried (deleted) after not being seeded for a period of say 3 months."

                          I've re-seeded a dozen or so dead torrents with the last few weeks, with many more on the way.

                          For example: https://www.gaytor.rent/details.php?id=701c7c4f39020e56a64a1fe1d0a7da4c8a97f897c6602c66&rated=1

                          It's very convenient that some inactive (dead) torrents have not been deleted. Makes 'em easier to re-seed.

                          Maybe only duplicate dead torrents should be deleted and whittled down to one.

                            I agree. I keep a lot of my torrents on another site alive where they delete after six months inactivity. If someone asks for a copy it is much easier to reseed than repost. Although you may ask if no-one has shown interest for six months, it may be time for the dustbin  😄

                              You probably got marked as a duplicate because your file matched the file in the other torrent and you could have revived it instead of uploading a new one.

                              As for "don't ask us we will ask you" is probably describing a staff member rank

                                Can I download a dead torrent? I posted the torrent, but I lost the original files. How can I do that?

                                  If the dead torrent has been snatched, there might be a chance to reseed this, by clicking Request Reseed Button. Do it just once and the system will sent pm's to those who have downloaded the torrent and a chance that one or more who have downloaded the torrent still have the original file.
