If a person does a search including all categories there is presently 56,815 dead torrents on the system. Personally I was surprised by the number of dead torrents but it gave me a better understanding of why people are uploading torrents that turn out to be duplicates.

Now I don't know at what time these torrents became dead, could be they only became dead yesterday or in 2008, only the moderators know!

I would like to see a lot of these "dead" torrents buried (deleted) after not being seeded for a period of say 3 months. Obviously the system now keeps track of these torrents in order for their status to be defined as "dead" so couldn't the system send out a re-seed notice to the original poster and if they choose not to re-seed within 2 weeks, then the torrent gets deleted. I suspect there would be a lot less "dead" torrents and/or duplicates if this was to be done.

There must be some set of rules that sets the length of time a torrent is "dead" before it is deleted? If there is, I would appreciate if someone could post a link to it so we can see what it is. I for one would like to see a lot less than 56,815 dead torrents on the system. :hmmm:

If the dead torrent has been snatched, there might be a chance to reseed this, by clicking Request Reseed Button. Do it just once and the system will sent pm's to those who have downloaded the torrent and a chance that one or more who have downloaded the torrent still have the original file.

I do believe that if you ask one of the moderators they will tell you the you should check both active and dead torrents before uploading any torrent. Also if you upload a torrent and it is in the so called "dead" state, your torrent can be and will be treated as a duplicate or so I've discovered after having a torrent I uploaded called a duplicate even though the other torrent was defined as "dead". If you can show me a link to where I can read about the information you provided it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.. have a good one

You probably got marked as a duplicate because your file matched the file in the other torrent and you could have revived it instead of uploading a new one.

As for "don't ask us we will ask you" is probably describing a staff member rank

I agree. I keep a lot of my torrents on another site alive where they delete after six months inactivity. If someone asks for a copy it is much easier to reseed than repost.
I've re-seeded a dozen or so dead torrents with the last few weeks, with many more on the way.

For example: https://www.gaytor.rent/details.php?id=701c7c4f39020e56a64a1fe1d0a7da4c8a97f897c6602c66&rated=1

It's very convenient that some inactive (dead) torrents have not been deleted. Makes 'em easier to re-seed.

Maybe only duplicate dead torrents should be deleted and whittled down to one.

I do believe that if you ask one of the moderators they will tell you the you should check both active and dead torrents before uploading any torrent.

Both states should be searched for (active and dead): Active ones are sought so as to discourage uploading a duplicate. Inactive ones so that they may be removed or promoted.

But do realize that a a dead torrent can become active again once a user starts seeding it. So then your upload could get reported as a duplicate

That is why the correct sequence of events is (1) the presumptive uploader holds the uploading of his torrent in abeyance until (2) his report of the inactive version is dealt with, at which time (3) the uploader may commence seeding its promotion or uploading its replacement. Any uploader following this exact sequence will never receive a duplicate warning.

That question has merit, even if the time needed to execute it, doesn't.

As far as dead duplicates:

there would be a lot less "dead" torrents and/or duplicates if this was to be done.

The terms dead and duplicate are mutually exclusive.

According to the logic of the Uploading Rules an inactive (dead) torrent cannot be considered a duplicate, which is defined as an "existing torrent(s) which has the same format and similar size (<10% difference) and has at least one seeder." Dead torrents have no seeders.

So gaytorrent marking an upload as a duplicate based on a dead torrent is an issue of staff training, not of site policy.
