Well for me it never hurted, I always told my partner to play a bit with fingers before sex so it would relax, and then when I was relaxed he would enter. But! Always with finger playing because I think that sex without finger playing might lead to sphyncter muscle issues…

        I've had three fuckbuddies.

One was a bit below average. I even asked the dreaded "Are you in?" question once.
The next was a bit above average with a good mushroom tip. It hurt going in, and when it popped through, then it didn't hurt at all, but made me feel full inside and massaged me nicely.
The last was really big and attached to a heavy guy who really liked to pound. It hurt me so that I was involuntarily moaning all while being fucked and my ass burned and tingled for a day afterward.

I only fantasize about the last guy now.

See this post I wrote a couple years ago.  I think it sums everything up pretty well.

Men who are bottoms or versatile tell me it does not hurt and that it's easier for them to take a cock than it is a dildo or finger.

I am a top/activo and have had men finger my ass and I tried a prostate vibrator back there and both felt painful and uncomfortable so I have never bottomed and do not want to.

I'm the same way.  Total maso-slut nowadays.

To answer the OP's question, the primary factor is how relaxed you are.  It is entirely possible to work your way up to any cock size or dildo size with preparation and care and have absolutely no pain involved.  Rimming/reaming is very helpful in this regard, since the anal ring has pleasure sensitive nerves, and a tongue is basically incapable of causing pain.  The pleasure helps you to relax, so that you can easily take small to average sized dicks without pain.  Larger cocks will require more prep, either with fingers or toys, to get you used to having an object inserted and stretch you out a little ahead of time.

For most guys, I personally don't need any prep because I love receiving and I can relax myself back there without effort.  Those muscles are under your control, but you'll probably need some experience receiving before you learn how to use them that way, since they are mostly autonomically controlled.

On the other hand, if you're really nervous and can't relax, and your partner refuses to prep you or doesn't know how, it'll probably hurt.  Always remember; 2 virgins + A bed = A mistake.

Oh, random sidenote; someone else said condoms help, but for me it's always been the opposite; they pull at my anal ring and make what should feel good very uncomfortable.

It doesn't hurt when the top knows how to fuck.

Hearing some amusing comments - no it shouldn't hurt.  Been bottoming for 20 years - am submissive pig bottom and can take an absolute pounding and able to wear out multiple guys.

Relaxing is key - obviously.  Condoms feel sticky and grab at times so bareback (skin to skin) is always better feeling.

Use plenty of lube.  Take your time.  Rimming and fingering can be good but be careful fingering doesn't irritate your hole too much before any of the fun begins.

Highly recommend poppers if you're going to bottom.  They help you relax and they make bottoming feel fantastic!  Also recommend a little NSID (Motrin) type pain reliever before hand.  Like the daily does a hour before.  This ensures any residual pain is minimal and reduces inflammation.

As for cleaning - get a hose for your shower from any online sex shop and use low water pressure (I said low water pressure) to fill up your colon and squirt the water out.  Do this a few times to rinse things out.  Then you can go ass to mouth to ass to mouth and not worry about anything.  A good bottom should be able to go ass to mouth to ass to mouth 😉

The type of lube matters.  Water based lube is slick and generally good for fucking but it dries out fast so you need to apply it often.  If the top doesn't, the bottom will hurt.  Silicon lubes last much longer but are often thicker for jacking off.  Do NOT use a thick silicone lube for fucking.  You will hurt - the top will love it but you will not.  So ask around if you don't know whats' best for fucking.

During my first time I felt nothing AT ALL. He had an average penis (6 inches or so) and we used plenty of lube.

Of course, this may vary from person to person.

(And no I didn't tell him that)

But why would you prefer the last guy if it made you suffer so much? The second only made you feel pleasure If I understood correctly.  😛

I think he meant he won't have sex with the last guy again and its just limited to fantasizing.

Being a TOP, it would appear that now a days they want it to hurt or have instances of pleasure mixed with pain in an aggressive context to be remembered by. being a bottom is a lot of prep and very little effort as the TOP does all the work. In my many conquests I'd have to say that if it hurts, you should find a small, slender penis thats good for 50 pumps and pulls out…lol

Versatile here, and I definitely do not enjoy pain.  With proper lube and a guy who listens to feedback it is extremely pleasant.  The first time I came solely from being fucked it was one of the most amazing orgasms ever (partially because I had no idea that was even possible).  In fact, cumming from having your A-spot hit the right way is amazing no matter when it happens.  Extremely intense, and often makes the guy cum with you at the same time.

Guys who enjoy pain have other issues, as do the ones who enjoy inflicting it.

yes it does, at start and it can continue to hurt if the top does not take care of you right and understand your needs

It depends on the top and how nervous/relaxed you are. Once I had a horrible experience and started bleeding a little, the top had an extremely thick cock. Sitting and pooping was a living hell. On the other hand, I hooked up with a guy who would put it in really smooth and then proceed to pound me like there is no tomorrow. No pain at all.
