      you have to change your life style. Change your diet and start working out (otherwise its the "yo-yo effect")

      Quite true, but it's a struggle for me:  I have a high-pressure long-hours job that I truly love, and there's not always time or energy for the gym.

      I try to be moderate with food, but I used to be a professional chef and I love to cook/eat…and I've been single for a while now, and many purchased items are portioned for two people rather than one...and I don't have the discipline to save half as leftovers.

      One thing that does help is to put a few pictures of really in-shape guys on my fridge door.  It tends to slow me down reaching for the wrong things 🙂

          I had the exact same problem. I lost 50 pounds in 4 months - all I had to do was at eat 1,750 calories everyday, and did 20 push-ups in the morning. I ate basically whatever I wanted, just as long as I didn't go over my limit. I used an app called Fooducate. It did all the math for me - all I had to do was scan the labels of what I ate and it had all the info. Really worked for me

          You may not see my comment as it has been like 3 years lol but I'm looking towards losing some weight and your advice really helps!

              Be on a diet on your own may be a bit risky. I would say go to the doctor and ask him/her to state a good and appropriate diet for you.

              Apart from the kind of food you eat, exercise is always good.

                Yes, go your primary doctor (if he/she has a strong interest in dispensing dietary advice).  If you're insured, see if you can get a referral to a certified nutritionist or similar.

                On your own, the Mediterranean Diet is gaining wide acceptance as a healthy regimen, and as a general rule, avoid highly processed foods.    :hug2:

                  I agree  🙂 the Mediterranean diet is healthier than those processed foods (with a lot of bad fat). Our diet always includes fish, meat, legumes, fruit and lots of vegetables. One of the key elements in this diet is the virgin oil, very healthy.

                        You have to find a sport or activity that works for you. Help you keep active even if it is just to improve your health. Another thing is finding a diet or style of eating that works for you. Piece by piece changing your diet and habits in order to make them healthier.
                        After that the weight should slowly decrease. But I suggest you focus more in improving the way you feel and your well being.

                          In my non-expert opinion it makes no sense to just restrict your diet, for two reasons.

                          1. I'm a foodie and I can not stand restricting myself on what I eat and how much I eat
                          2. I find that it is best to emphasize on exercise (whichever fits your individual case, in case you may have injuries etc)
                            Exercise will make you feel better in general, will make it so that you dont get cramps and body aches as you grow older, etc. Its a win-win really.
