I'm a foodie and I can not stand restricting myself on what I eat and how much I eat

I find that it is best to emphasize on exercise (whichever fits your individual case, in case you may have injuries etc)
Exercise will make you feel better in general, will make it so that you dont get cramps and body aches as you grow older, etc. Its a win-win really.

Quite true, but it's a struggle for me: I have a high-pressure long-hours job that I truly love, and there's not always time or energy for the gym.

I try to be moderate with food, but I used to be a professional chef and I love to cook/eat…and I've been single for a while now, and many purchased items are portioned for two people rather than one...and I don't have the discipline to save half as leftovers.

One thing that does help is to put a few pictures of really in-shape guys on my fridge door. It tends to slow me down reaching for the wrong things

like sexypooface I used an app to work out my calories and exercise etc, but I used lifesum instead, sounds like it had pretty much the same functions. I used the 5-2 diet though (eat normal 2000-2500 calorie diet for 5 days a week and eat v low calories (~600) the other 2) I bought a fitness tracker watch and set myself a reasonable steps goal, but I already have a dog I had to walk so that was an easy goal, I don't berate myself if I don't hit it, it's a target and I naturally make up for it on other days. Once I got to a reasonable level of fitness through natural excercise I joined a gym to help tone up where I'd lost the fat (with the added bonus of spying on the guys in the showers)

In terms of banting, it's probably not a bad diet, Ideally I would follow a paleo diet, but modern life makes that difficult, next best thing I would say is a farmhouse diet… i.e. what would be on a plate in a traditional farmhouse kitchen. Ideally your diet should be a good balance of fresh fruit & veg, nuts, seeds, meat, fish, pulses and legumes which will provide all the nutrition you need, anything without a label is your friend, if it has a label, the fewer ingredients the better and avoid anything with a scientific sounding ingredient you can't pronounce.

It makes working how much to eat so much easier, and it helps with sticking to an eating plan. Chocolate has always been my downfall when it comes to losing weight. I'm reading this book called the chocolate diet by alex landerson which has some interesting advice on how to include chocolate in a diet without overeating it. Something a little hard to do this time of year with all the easter eggs floating around.

Now diet is 80% of losing weight but if you are playing a sport you love you'll discover the weight comes off faster when you're eating right and it comes on slower when you're eating bad. Finally, you'll also find you want to eat more healthy because as you make bad decisions and gain weight you'll find it hurts your athleticism in your sport or if you find yourself going out and drinking you'll find the hangover hurts your sports the next day and you won't want to have those consequences anymore. So you'll find yourself wanting to make better decisions.

It's not a simple thing.
Food intake is about 80% of the battle, and exercise the other 20%

There are many free apps Like Fooducate
but I like the MyFitness ones
there are several and all free
My FitnessPal is good for food and you can connect it to MapMyFitness and MapMy Walk to add in exercise
Just remember less food meets losing weight
If you do a lot of exercises don't eat the extra calories

Good luck
