mac looks pretty but that's it, it's more like a fashion accesory
pc is cheaper and offers better hardware, software and you can improve each part instead of trashing it after 2 years for a whole new machine; but sharing pictures of it won't make your friends think you're cool tho

Wow! You really don't know anything about Macs.

The PC initial purchase price is typically lower but the TCO of a Mac is way lower, as their effective lifetime is far longer than that of a PC.

The hardware in a Mac is selected and designed to operate together as a consistent whole, rather than with a PC, there are a phenomenal number of possible combinations of hardware, much of which causes conflicts which simply don't exist on any Mac platform.

Wanna give a reason why you think the software is better?  As a developer of many years on both platforms, I can tell you that where developing anything other than trivial software for Windows (I'm assuming you're not talking Linux here) is a pain in the backside, developing for Mac is a real pleasure.

So you 'improve' your hardware regularly?  It sounds a lot like you're the one trying to impress your friends.  Macs are upgradable too you know.

Add to all of these things, the reliability of Mac OS, the free OS upgrades, the simplicity of installing and removing software - on a Mac you can really remove the software, not just get rid of the superficial traces - and the superb support available for Apple products, and Macs beat PC for most taks, hands down.

Oh, I forgot to mention that Mac OS is built on the superbly stable and thoroughly tested foundation of UNIX, and is designed in a manner which makes writing viruses and malware far less easy; not impossible, but far less easy; making it entirely possible to run a Mac safely with just the built-in security with no need for virus protection and the like that's just a way of life on Windows.  The machine i'm using is 6 years old, still going strong, not in need of replacement or upgrade and hasn't crashed in any way, even once in the whole time I've had it.  Can't beat that.

I'm not sure if you're looking for help in buying the hardware or in general opinion about each. I never owned Mac, but I'm planning on buying it in future when my laptop gives up on me. OS X is the only reason I wish to own a Mac (I'm not a fan on hackintosh) because it perfectly suits all my needs and desires. I ditched Windows over Arch Linux couple of months ago and I'm not even considering of going back to Windows. All I need which is Windows-only runs well with WINE. 🙂 So my vote goes to OS X (and Macs)

Ive been on PC up until a year ago.

Mac is the way to go. Its more stable, laptops have longer battery, they are more powerful, the customer support is amazing, they are super easy to use and back up. The flash storage on Macs make them super fast as well.

Ultimately you should just go to an apple store and ask to try out a Mac. They will let you and you can get a feel for the system.

Some people say they are not upgradeable, but the point is you put the $$ in at the beginning, it lasts a long time. I have macs from 1998 that still work.
Also most people that hate macs have never used one, or want one and cant afford it and are cranky.

I prefer the Mac.  I do run Windows in vMware to support legacy financial application, but the mac's unix foundation is rock solid.    I have owned Windows workstations/laptops and multiple Mac models, and I would still choose the mac any day.  The machines are rock solid, hold their value, and last many years longer than their Windows based contemporaries following an OS upgrade.  A virus can happen to a mac but it is generally a harder nut to crack. True, the hardware can be a little expensive but you can also build your own Hackintosh if you know what you are doing.  I have both and I must admit that the hackintosh is a bit more fun.

I have been a mac user prior to it being popular. My first iMac I had to buy at Sears in the USA as it was the only store that carried it at the time. I am a fan of their customer service and any issues I have ever had they stand behind their product.

Its funny how people are so adamant in either pc or mac that it seems to be the same with politics in this country. Democrat or Republican. It seems there is no happy medium where things can de discussed. Its either your way or my way. 🙂
