That's been a confusing sentiment for me as I've looked into trying wearing one. Originally, they were for "jocks" –  athletic guys who'd require them for aggressive activities (typically alpha-like men, like you said).  But then it eventually became preferable for bottoms to wear for easier access (like what's said above as well). So it's like whatever, lol...

Anyway, I've always had mixed feelings about these types of undies. They can definitely be sexy on the right kind of guy, but at times I need to let go of its stigma (when it comes to real life) -- the extreme arrogance or sluttiness associated with [some] guys who wear them. But who am I to judge, right?
