Reminds me of the allegation that the difference between a str8 man and a gay man is a six pack. Of beer, not….
And that joke seems to be predicated on the notion that "gay" and "str8" are not permanent conditions, but transactional: that there are actions that people do, not solidified psychological states, and that people do whatever it is they do. There is an interesting book on the Invention of the Heterosexual. That notion, of "straits" v "gays," is usually couched in terms of how heteros discovered and labeled homos, but that necessarily involved some limiting and arbitrary definition of "heterosexuality" as both "normal" and ridiculously narrow.
