Well, there are some tips that I can give you.

At the beginning avoid Downloading files too big.
Always leave your torrent open, I recommend leaving it open while you sleep too.
Try to download new and popular torrent, they have more chances to be downloaded.
Get Freeleaches.
And you can always upload new files, which is by far the best way.

And while you leave your torrent open, you will earn Bonus, which you can use to raise your ratio. Also uploading pictures gives you Bonus.

As they say size matters. If yours is 900mb and the one on GTRU is 700mb you can upload yours.

If you collect all the parts, since many times the studio is releasing parts to movies i.e. 1-4, you can put them all in a folder and upload them together.

If you collect a certain actor or studio you can also upload them as a collection. i.e. Dawson Collection, Choasmen collection.

Also, even if the files are about the same size as the ones currently on the tracker, if the format container is different, or if the files are split into pieces (part 1, part 2, etc) instead of being all together as one big file, you can also still upload it as it technically would not constitute a duplicate.
