I have three leftover 1 or 2TB externals -- but unlike yours, which have been repurposed, mine are in limbo. All have porn, and have been knocked over or dropped, guess they range from from 5-8 years old.
One clicks, one whirs, and other makes no sound. I do suspect there's a few things I'd like to recover.
Unfortunately, the world of hard-drive recovery repair is full of extortionists, hoping for a clientele of dumb small-business people who would pay anything to recover their client list.
And even if I found some young, independent techie at reasonable rates, I don't feel comfortable letting my drives out of the apartment.
I've seen Youtube vids on home repair, but they seem very iffy for someone with no practice. For now, they are a project for a future day.

Clicks of death (thanks Sandisk) and whirs are both heart attacks and heartbreaks. Think I cried for two days once.

I have total of 452 GB capacity in my Laptop and 440 GB occupied with various porn taken from different sources [excludes other external hard drives mostly TB capacities as back up]...
Now it happens yesterday that something went wrong in my PC that windows lost it start up configuration...
For long story short considered crash, so the only way is to re-format the whole thing, so I lost most of my favorites that I collected here for so many years and never recover those files today...
The point is, never ever to store important files in your main hard drive always back it up before something happen... -
Honestly waaaay too big, at this point it's probably getting close to 1TB. Across multiple hard drives.
Just checked one folder out of curiosity and it's 600GB

After reading through most of the replies here I realise that I'm actually a porn hoarder.
I have like a totally of 2.5TB of porn and still growing. Them bareback stuff are hard to experience in real life so most of them appears so precious to me. -
I have nearly 3 TB in what I call my "Named" folders (curated by performer) and an additional 4.2 TB in miscellaneous folders sorted at a high level by content type.
Then again, I never delete anything (except dups) and I have a large NAS drive, so space isn't an issue for me.

I have a total of 3 TB of porn (around 3.600 files) and it's still growing (I have to re-download 300 videos from BelAmi in HD, so add about 350 GB)

@soulcalibour That's a big part of the challenge to any porn folder!
If you have a file in Standard Definition (SD) -- but then are tempted when finding the same clip in HD, FHD or UHD/4K...!

15.6TB (remember, Windows and Unraid count in Tebibytes (TiB) not Terabytes - Tebibytes are larger). I win.
I have been collecting for over 20 years and I never delete anything. I am the true definition of a data hoarder. Some of what's on there predates Bittorrent. Of course I have been replacing older things with better quality over the years but theres still some things with original file dates in the late 90's and have lived on a dozen or more hard drives over the years as they were upgraded. Yes, I sell access to my collection if you're interested.

@young I have a 1TB external hard drive which is mostly porn, but also regular movies, TV shows, and comic books that have gay content.
A second 1TB drive has movies, TV shows and comic books that are not gay.

33Gbs of pictures from all over the internet since the 90s
650Gbs of porn from studios
57Gbs of video clips from places like Xhamster, etcSo around 740Gbs, not counting gay-themed movies like Patrik 1.5, The Mudge Boy, Mysterious Skin, My Own Private Idaho, etc. or homoerotic stuff like the Araki trilogy. That stuff adds 44Gbs
