I'm getting married next year, probably in September and we intend to make it a proper wedding… Ceremony, a big party after the vows, family and everything...

What are your thoughts about it?

  I think you are one the luckiest men on earth!

… and if your question is, if I would as well make this day the best day ever for my husband, my family, my friends and myself ... the answer is: YES! I definitely would, because I'm still one of these people, who believe that such a day is one of the most beautiful days in ones life. :crazy2:

Me too! It may be a little old fashioned, but I guess that the way I am…

In Scotland we're still waiting for marriage equality.  Even though it was made law back in Feb 2014, the SNP are holding it (and countless other things) hostage for a yes vote for independence.

We're gonna just have the paperwork change from civil partnership to marriage.  That'll cost the same as a full marriage ceremony as the SNP view equality as a cash cow.

I was recently married in Pennsylvania, USA on June 28th, 2014 (marriage equality became legal in this state on May 21, 2014 after PA's Defense of Marriage Act was struck down in the courts as unconstitutional and not challenged by the bigoted Governor, mostly allowing to the fact that the decision would be upheld on appeal)

19 US states now allow same sex marriage (California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington) and the District of Columbia. Oklahoma, Virginia, Michigan, Idaho, Arkansas, Texas, Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky and Colorado re awaiting appellate court decisions after lower courts ruled in favor of allowing such licenses. The federal appellate court confirmed the lower court's ruling in favor of allowing such licenses in Utah, (where he is from) but stayed its decision. Colorado, Nevada, and Wisconsin have created legal unions for same-sex couples that offer varying subsets of the rights and responsibilities of marriage under the laws of those jurisdictions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same-sex_marriage_in_the_United_States

We had a small 'legal' ceremony in Pennsylvania for friends and family then a 'dream wedding' (his dream, not mine) officiated by the ship's captain while on a cruise to Hawaii to celebrate our honeymoon. (Princess Cruise lines has a special wedding package that was pretty elaborate with all the bells and whistles)

This was my 3rd marriage (previous 2 were women) his first (and ONLY)

              Thank You,

Normally, a shotgun wedding is a wedding that is arranged to avoid embarrassment due to an unplanned pregnancy, rather than out of the desire of the participants. The phrase is an American colloquialism, though it is also used in other parts of the world, based on a supposed scenario (usually hyperbole) that the father of the pregnant daughter, almost by accepted custom, must resort to using coercion (such as threatening with a shotgun) to ensure that the man who impregnated her follows through with the wedding.)

Universally, the divorce rates exceeds 50%. Are you sure this would be the best way to start building a life with your intended?

                        Just a thought.

                        Thank You,

I'd be happy with just the marriage license and maybe throwing a party with friends and family (so they'd feel obligated to give us gifts  >:D)
Definitely none of this $20000 business, I'd rather get a new car or something, but to each their own.

This is unless I'm rolling in cash then in which case I might as well make a day of it.
