Hey there, Figured id post my story cause im still in shock myself. I never knew my father.. he and my mom had a falling out and he was deported back to Canada and my mom and he lost touch. My mom wasnt a good parent. I was in and out of the foster system growing up until my mom passed away when i was 18, 7 years ago. I had never given up looking for my dad, just got overwhelmed and come back to it a month or so later. My partner of 8 years has always been very supportive of me which has helped through holidays and birthdays being an orphan. I came to China a few months ago for school and its been hard being without my partner for this long and only having Skype contact. I received a message from a man sharing my same name on facebook who lived in Canada. My heart completely sank. He sent me a message stating he has been looking for me for a while. of course i immediately asked if he was my dad lol. he asked me if my mom name was XX and I said yes and he said that he was my dad. over the past 3 months I have gotten to know him very well. we talk daily using an app I have access to in China and we have so much in common! One of the first things I told im was that I am gay and he said that didnt matter, that we are blood and there was nothing wrong with who I am. This, of course, was a wayyyyy more positive reaction than what I had gotten from my mom and her side of the family… most of which I still do not talk to to this day. I havent met him yet face to face. I fly home to America in 3 weeks and after that I will fly to Canada. Im so nervous! It means a lot to me that he can be there for my wedding in a year and that I can celebrate fathers day and have a family member to think about and visit on other holidays. Its been a life changing experience for me and has given me a whole new outlook on life.
