Portugal - stepping back in gay marriage?

I must say to start than I write this enraged… because as you're about to read the proposition that will be discussed is hilarious to a european country and even further to a 2nd world country...
"Altogether, the petition "Defend the Future" aims to amend or repeal 7 laws - medically assisted procreation, abortion, divorce, financing of private education, sex education in schools, marriage between same-sex and sex change in civil registration- claiming that in "the last six years of governance" those destroyed "the structural pillars of society." the same text also calls for the recognition of the family "as the foundation of Social Organization in promoting personal responsibility, and fostering intergenerational solidarity economy" this petition comes from no other than 4 thousand idiots in a country of more than eleven million, it does not represent the will of the people, it only stands for what some beligerant bigots want...
Now how stupid one must be to use this fallacies and even discuss them in parlament? Well that is exactly what the government will do... If some of you can share this make it reach the media I'd love that, so that our "government" get's a reminder that it can't go around playing with social rights as it wills.

Well, you can find bigots everywhere - not just in Portugal but in every other country.
I understand your rage and frustration, but as far as I can tell, it's just a petition signed by a few thousand people. So, it has no legal basis.
As I understand it, there is no official announcement from the Portuguese government regarding any stepping back from the legal status of same-sex marriage.
This fact should ease your rage a bit.
Another encouraging fact about Portugal is that it's not only one of the few countries in the world that recognize and perform same-sex marriages, but it's one of the few that expand that right to people who are not citizens or residents of Portugal. That's really admirable.
For the record, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain and some territories of Brazil, Mexico and the USA allow same-sex marriages but only if at least one of the participants is citizen or legal resident of that country.
On the other hand, Argentina, Canada, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Portugal, South Africa and Sweden allow same-sex marriages even if none of the participants is citizen or resident (ie. a simple tourist).
So, despite your understandable frustration, there are things about Portugal you should feel proud of.

I'm very incredibly proud Dax :hug2: :love: of that progress (tho it was used as popular leverage at the time)
But not on they even daring to discuss this petition while they ignore others with more than 2 million signers (we want to fire our prime minister and the chief of state president both involved in schemes around the banking) about much more important agenda… and I'm sadder because it's not even only about us, you read it... illegalizing divorce nowadays in europe... What the hell were they smoking?

@ myrea : I wouldn't think too much about people, who argue with words like "destroy" in the same sentence as they want laws to be repealed. I only know a very few examples all over the world, where developments for human rights had been changed back to the former definitions, so I really think that you shouldn't care too much about such nonsens. Humans will constantly move forwards, some a bit faster than other ones, but we definetly make more and more efforts - all over the world.
