The current best upload speed I have heard of is VDSL - reaching (as I was told) up to 5 MBit/s upload speed). Alas VDSL is curently not available everywhere in Germany but only in some regions. Plans of German T-com are though to offer VDSL as their next offer all over Germany.

As usual the upload speed depends on what you are willing to pay - you can order also a symmetric DSL - but it's a bit awkward to find a knowledgeable telephon partner who has enough knowledge about their offers and b) I was told (some years ago - I could lease such a line for 300 EUR per month - opposed to a 30 EUR offer for a "normal" ADSL connection (1 MBit upload speed).

this is really strange, many ISPs offer very fast download speed, like download is : 6MB/sec but upload is 512KB/sec

        huge difference…
i am trying to find a ISP with decent upload speed..
        any suggestions?

That will be hard, because most ISP are using copper based ADSL technology, which in the very best case allows 1 M bit /s (128 KBytes/s) up and 24 M bit / s down speed and that depends on the quality of the line and distance between the not and your home. For example at my home, with 1.2 km distance to the not such offer was giving real 800 kb/s up and 7.2 Mb/s down….

You can read about VDSL there : hxxp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VDSL

Seen the low distance needed to get high bitrates, it is for dense cities only.

Now fibre optics to home seem to become the trend, but their deployment will cost a lot of money, thus time.

Dont you have cable connections in Germany..?
            I'm on a (private) cable connection and my upload= 25+ Mb/s, download= 350+ Mb/s.  for only 20euro a month  ;D ;D

Some ISPs may offer ANNEX-M technology for their ADSL plans.

The theoretical upload limit for ANNEX-M is 3.5 mbps.

                Check this out: hxxp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITU_G.992.5_Annex_M

Depends on the region you live in if you can get cable connection. In my region (Northern Germany) the is one cable company (Kabel Deutschland) who offers TV, phone and Internet via cable). with a download speed of ~30 MBit/s. Thorough investigating a bit deeper (regarding upload speed) gave the usual result of 1 MBit / s which is not better than what my current ISP offers via ADSL 😞

hai guys, im new to the forum.

if you can't afford a dedicated high bandwidth line, then why not go down the route of a seedbox?

they start at about 12 euros a month, and save you money not having to have a pc/server on all the time.

im not sure what other peoples views are regarding seed boxes, but having one for the previous month has made a huge difference to my ratios.

best thing aswell, you access it via SSH so its completely secure.

                      just my 2c

Some thoughts about seed boxes though:

1st: why pay a monthly fee for a seed box when you have a decent (1 MBit/s[nb]even a speed of of 512 KBit/2 = 64 KByte/s is enough to get permission to upload 2 new torrents at the same time[/nb] ) upload speed?

2nd: what to do with your downloaded data files? I currently have more than 4 TB of data available for seeding, a seed box with such storage capacity is waaaayyyy more expensive than the starting 12 EUR/month, and you need at least a capacity of several GB to be able to seed torrents over a longer time.

3rd: The use of seed boxes may prove very unfair towards other users with limited upload speed because the BitTorrent protocol is designed to prefer peers with a better upload spee so using a seed box may result in unfair behaviouir towrds (so called) slow-liners.

Bottom line: I don't like seed boxes very much (unless you carefully control your ratio management and don't try to over seed torrents) - but because we don't forbid seed boxes (and won't do so for the overview-able future) I can only recommend: be careful with using a seed box.
