      I have avast and malwarebytes.

      I'm wondering if anyone could recommend better and still 'free' alternatives?

          Even though it is not preventative maintenance software I would recommend downloading Hirens Boot CD.  It has a wealth of valuable programs to help you recover damaged operating systems from viruses and malware.  It does a lot more than that also.  It can be downloaded as a bootable cd or a bootable usb device if your computer allows that.  This is a staple that I use with my job.  Just Google it and you should find plenty of places to snag it.

              May I recommend Ubuntu?

              Install it alongside Windows in a dual boot (or into a virtual machine, if you have a multicore processor).

              When you want to surf, just boot into Ubuntu and use Firefox or Chrome or any number of other browsers.

              Surf anywhere you want. They can't hurt you. No malware, no viruses, no anti-virus software, and no problems.

                  I don't use Anti-Virus software and the reason is simple… I've got a Mac 😉

                  Though on my PC laptop (Yuk!) I use Microsoft Security Essentials - Which is pretty good considering it's from MicroShit.

                    those smug apple users  ::)

                    i don't even have an ipod. i use a sandisk product as it puts out better sound and has an equalizer.  :cool2:

                    i think apple is a good investment though. the products just aren't for those who value performance for price: people like me.

                      Macs are over priced.

                        I can't wait for RIM's Blackpad, so I can crunch numbers on the subway in excel…lol

                        Seriously though, I am interested in how is will stack up against the Ipad.
