Seed Bonus Whores!
-
Sorry for the double post but I was thinking of how great it would be if we could include gifted SBP for all to see. I for one will not give SBP to someone who has thousands of SBP but has given zero to other uploaders
Tracker members cannot see that info though. Only mods and admins can see profiles. ??? Would be nice to see the gifted SBPs wouldn't it?

…
So rather than tell people that they can't/shouldn't beg, just say they if they want to request bonus points, then the “beggars’ bonus records is made transparent to all--so that the donor can see what the requesters behavior has been. Bonus point privacy is waived if you want to ask for them. This would differentiate the needy from the whore.
…
That could be the answer, members will think twice before asking for seed bonus points IMHO
-
It would be great if we could see stats of seed bonus point requesters. That way i would l know if they really needed the sbp before I give them to them.
-
Since I have a steady flow of bonus points accruing I like the idea of giving points every time I click to download something. I know if I had more time and expertise I could probably give back to the network more than I do. Giving points is an easy thing to do and I can avoid feeling useless.
Are there any reasons why one would not want to do so? My question is: how do you know how many to give. So far the only "rule of thumb" I can think of is - don't exhaust them. That way you can keep giving them.PS I'm on the sidelines most of the time but I do enjoy the community here.

…how do you know how many to give...
You are not required to give any seed bonus points but here is a little guide I came up with if you do and want to keep it "fair".

I agree. It would be very useful to see all of a user's seed bonus data even if their profile is set to 'security settings doesn't allow to show you the Profile!'
That way, a more informed choice on whether or not you want to give seed bonus points, can be made

Now I'm really puzzled, did you never visit our forum?
(of course you did
) The information about a poster in the forum says everything you asked for (like my example of this thread) :Posts: 1,785

Ratio: 3.605
Uploaded: 4.48 TB
Downloaded: 1.24 TB
SeedBonus: 4825.125
Avg ULSpeed: Ø43.74 kBOK - if a user does not post in the forum this information is not available - but for me this is a help in deciding about giving SBP as well.
And to address the next question (about anonymous uploaders) right now: I value this mode of staying anonymous (secure profile for power users) higher than the question about help for deciding if (and when yes how many) SBP to give - not taking in account that this is a feature for power users with a ratio > 1.05. They usually do not need SBP - but of course you can give SBP to them too - based only of the torrent's worth for you (that was our first goal why we implemented the thank you method with SBP).
-
So basically if you can't see an uploaders profile he is a power user and doesn't need any "help".
Why not set a guideline then that power users(or higher) cannot ask for sbp?
To me it's like a millionaire asking me to borrow 100 dollars.

I voted for "NO! Nobody likes a beggar."
My connection isnt fast, but I can hold ratio on 1, so it can also all users. People want all for nothing, but it isnt philosophy of P2P. Seed bonus is just reward for fair sharing and for upload, when users send points to uploader. All begging for points should be punished (for example -5 points).

Sorry for my LOL - you wanna give our moderators even more work? I do not want to make fun of your suggestion, but please think about who has to work on it (and the one who has to program such a solution).
-
Feel free to laugh if you want. This is only my idea and view. Me is one, if you want to do something with this situation. I ignore all seed points request. Im just surprised, what this users do on trackers, when they dont know what P2P is. If them dont like, let download from share servers (f.e. rapidshare). Im on several trackers, who isnt seed bonus and users have no problem. Also Im on trackers, who is seed bonus sophisticated, and also no problem.

In my reply I wasn't meaning the stats in the forum post. When I download a file I will go back to the torrent page and usually rate the content. I’ll click on the uploader’s name and have a look at their stats, and give a thanks and SBP accordingly.
As for the privacy part, I’m not sure what benefit that gives someone on here, apart from not letting others see what they have uploaded or are seeding. I find it useful looking at what other videos someone may have when I find something I like. Fair enough, there may be valid reasons why someone would want to keep there uploads/seeding files private, but I can’t think of a reasons why anyone would want to hide their upload/download and seed bonus details.

then you're way more merciful than me i only give bonus for uploads that i like. or if i feel like an angel that day (which is rare)
any requests i see that appears outside of the comments section immediately forfeits the my appreciation or spirit of giving (depending on the trigger)
and i probably don't care if he's a whore as long as i like the upload. if he doesn't need the points and he's also a giver he'll redirect my points to a more needy personnel :hug2:and i usually seed the downloads i like so i'm comparably better than some of the incarnations of scrooge.
(pray that my hdd doesn't decide to crash on me)my guess would be if you can't see his details you wouldn't give him points. (that's probably what I would do if I were checking his details)
p/s: getting closer to ratio 1

I am having an ongoing conversation with a member now who puts seed bonus comments in his torrent descriptions(at the top and in all caps sometimes
). He honestly believes we are all to stupid to give SBP because we want to. In his opinion if he doesn't ask for them, then we won't give them to him.I for one am the exact opposite. I give SBPs to every torrent I download. If they ask for SBPs they get an automatic 1SBP no matter how much I like the torrent.
-
No matter what, seed bonuses are charity. Like hobos on the street corner, i don't just give spare change or a smoke to just anyone. Egregious begging is counter-productive. I'm less inclined to give bonus for CAPS-ON begging. When it comes down to it though is that great uploads deserve good charity. I'm delighted to know that my compilation has earned 326 points to date. That being said, the bonuses do encourage me to upload more new torrents. In fact, if bonuses didn't exist, I'm not sure I would have uploaded anything new. I used to have my complaints about the system and still think there should be some sort of bonus for forum activity, but on a whole I think it's a pretty effective program.
I also think it would be cool if one could gamble with their seed points.
-
I'm in a particularly generous space tonight. Gifting bluehue 50 SBP's on his first of many uploads here because I value his input. Thank you, brother.

For what it's worth, I see both sides of the issue- no one likes to feel pressured into giving a 'tip', but people who upload the files offer a valuable part of the site. HOWEVER–-- people who don't upload are still needed. If you had a P2P site where nobody could join unless they uploaded files, you would have a much smaller pool of activity. It's a very symbiotic relationship. So I think it would be nice if seed bonus could be shared with anyone, not just uploaders. BUT... I do realize that any change like that requires work, so I totally understand why it hasn't been implemented.
My biggest issue is the lack of 'Thank You'- regardless of giving SBP or not. If someone can click the 'download' button, they can surely click the 'Thank You' button as well. It may seem petty, but when I see a torrent of mine has been snatched 300 times and only 4 or 5 people have said "Thanks" it makes me feel kind of unappreciated.

yea i know that feeling … i always click thank you if i liked the torrent after watching it.

Seed Bonus greatly appreciated! Especially for guys with lame internet like me!!

If your internet is really that "lame", what are you doing on a torrent site in the first place? I don't mean to sound offensive, but I fail to understand how you could expect "high performance results" from say for example a 14.4k dial-up modem (assuming you haven't taken the jump to the big ole 56.6k lol)

Wow, talking about mentally going through the spin cycle! My first thought was the poll should have had the "no" choice in the middle to be "objective" since the opening post is pretty convincingly leading the reader in that direction.
My second thought was as long as the 'begging' isn't in capitals AND on the post twice, I don't really mind the person asking, since it is still my choice. Sometimes after scouring the search page and looking at a couple dozen before making a selection, it may slip my mind to give seed bonus. So the request serves as a reminder.
Then I read the statistics and my mind changed again. UNBELIEVABLE - someone could get 21,000 FREE seedpoints and only give 921? Stingy and simultaneously greedy come to mind, how could it not?
But then I wondered - how much are they uploading? It must be an awful lot to GET that many points, right? So maybe overall, they are making a lot of titles available to members that we wouldn't otherwise get to see? I'd like to see some stats on how many titles and GB's the people with that many seedpoints have uploaded.
This is a minor point, but the "Thank you button" was mentioned once (or more?) Mixed feelings again. Shall I click it each time even before I see the movie? I have a very slow connection, so if I wait to see the movie, I will almost certainly forget to go back and thank the person. Or am I thanking the person simply for uploading? (for me at least, the overwhelming majority of the time, the torrent I'm uploading is something I have no prior knowledge about, I'm just basing my choice on the description and photos on GT)
Not that this will ever happen, but lets just say everyone who downloads it clicks the thankyou button. What does saying thank you mean then if everyone does it every time? Actually, I need to figure out which torrent on Utorrent corresponds to which on listing on GT, because when I click on General properties, (on utorrent) the "http://tracker.gaytor.rent/2650 etc." is not the address for the torrent. And the title listed on Utorrent usually isn't enough of the title to search on GT. So I would say thank you more for the movies I've seen anyway if I knew how to find the original torrent. Utorrent will not let you rename it either. Well, it will but then you can't download because then the tracker doesn't correspond or something like that. Thank to whomever can answer this.
