Help! The Thumbnails on my External Hardrive for Porn are taking forever to load

So I set aside today to finally spend time meticulously cleaning up and organising my external hardrive for porn…
I go to open it, and all the thumbnails are just blank white paper icons (i.e. the thumbnails wont load). Does anyone know what is happening and how to solve it?
