https://community.gaytor.rent/topic/64819/a-connection-attempt-failed-in-download/85

Based on some things I see in your profile, I suspect that the issue is that your ISP has blocked access to our site and/or tracker. If this is the case, using a VPN should solve this problem.
For optimal results, it is best to use a VPN that supports port forwarding of at least one port, and that your torrent client uses the port that is forwarded. The tracker will still work without port forwarding, but the experience (especially for upload) will not be ideal for some peer situations.

@MrMazda Hello. That thought crossed my mind too, but here’s the thing: other sites are also blocked and don’t work without a VPN, yet in those cases, peers are detected and everything functions as it should. I’ve tested this on various devices while using a VPN—even when trying to download a torrent via the lite.utorrent browser client, it manages to connect to the tracker, but then it just stays stuck in an endless search for peers. I’m afraid the issue isn’t the VPN.

How your provider has blocked our services makes a difference in whether or not a VPN will work. If your provider blocked our site by IP address or DNS resolution, then a VPN will work. If your country has gone balls to the wall with security (like they do here in Canada), then a VPN alone won't help, as their DPI system can and WILL be able to see the nature of the traffic, even through a VPN.
When there is a DPI system in place to filter content, there is still a way around this, however it requires a VPN that has a "stealth VPN" option, which uses an advanced DPI firewall (and also ususlly port TCP 22 or TCP 443) in order to block such DPI systems from being able to get a read of the nature of the traffic through the VPN.
When using Tor, the very nature of how it works and the number of hops required for the connection to make it to the destination target, most DPI systems will actually choke on the connection, which renders them useless. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if a DPI system is what is going on here, as this is the most effective method of internet censorship that exists.
I myself use PrivateVPN.com which has a stealth mode setting that from my experience, works really well, including for accessing content that is blocked with a DPI system so as to not be accessible from Canada, even with the use of a regular VPN.

@snab I have the same problem

I’m not sure if this will help with your issue, BUT! I tried three browser-based (website-hosted) torrent downloading services. Two of them—including webtor.io, which works WITHOUT a VPN—successfully downloaded my test file. "Gaytor" also detects the download and shows activity. One other service, however, fails to detect anything and just keeps searching for peers indefinitely. This suggests the problem isn't related to blocks imposed by Roskomnadzor (RKN), as the service itself initiates the request and is clearly based outside the country.
While you can use these tools to get the files you really need, unfortunately, they don't allow for seeding (uploading). That’s the worst part—it’s simply wrong and unfair, and not just because it hurts your ratio/rating. The search for a proper solution continues.
