Hi all, I'm very new at this whole seeding/torrent thing. I've made 2 torrents, and I'm trying to seed them to get my ratio up. I've downloaded the torrents, opened them in uTorrent and mapped it to the folder with the files, it checks them successfully but I'm getting 0 kB/s download/upload speeds and on the site it says I've only uploaded ~1 GB even though my files are much larger than that. I have tried setting my max speeds to infinite/a fixed value, I reset the peer list, started and stopped and forced re-checks, both are visible in my profile so some part of it is right, I'm just not sure why it's listed as inactive in uTorrent and why the upload values here are so slow. I'm using a VPN via Nord if that helps provide context. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

About NordVPN: Not being able to port-forward significantly reduces your ability to seed, as other peers cannot connect to you directly. NordVPN only offers port-forwarding if you buy a dedicated IP. If you have one, you need to configure your dedicated server and match its designated ports with your torrent client. If you don't have a dedicated IP, the VPN will decrease your seeding ability instead of increasing it.

Pausing the torrent: Once you connect to a peer, there is a cooldown before you can reconnect, so if you pause/stop your torrent, it can take several minutes before you can connect to a peer that was already connected previously.

Reported stats in the site: This is not updated in real time, you must rely on your torrent client to know how much you have seeded. Make sure to never force-close your torrent client, and make sure that your VPN is fully connected before closing the client. If your client cannot reach the tracker when it's about to shut down, the correct uploaded traffic might not be reported to the tracker, this cannot be recovered at all.

        Things that you can try:

        • Use a different torrent client to see if there's any improve in speeds when you finally manage to connect to another peer.
        • Use a VPN that fully supports P2P port-forwarding, like Proton VPN or PIA.

Welcome aboard. 0 kB/s upload usually means your torrent client can't accept incoming connections, so other peers can't reach you to pull data from you. Two things fix it most of the time: make sure your client's listening port is open/forwarded in your router (or turn on UPnP / NAT-PMP in the client settings), and if you're on a VPN, use one that supports port forwarding. Also double-check the client is actually seeding the completed files. Once peers can connect to you, your upload will pick up. Let us know if it's still stuck after that.
