I've been the initiator of a few new threads here, and noticed that many / most of those that are actual questions, as opposed to conversation starters, etc., get marked as a question then - hopefully, marked as solved. Those where I've seen this have, until now, been so marked by a moderator.

I've been hunting for how to mark my own so, and have been unable to work out how, so had come to the conclusion that this isn't something members do themselves, but is rather a moderator function. However, I've just stumbled on a thread where it looks like the originator has so marked it himself, probably at the time of its creation from the time stamp.

Is this something we can / should be doing ourselves? If so, it would be one less thing for the moderators to be constantly having to do. But if it is, could a great big "Is this a question?" prompt / button be displayed prominently somewhere in the creation process, because I can't see how, no matter how hard I look!

Other opinions are also available. They're not right, obviously, but they are available.

I poke every little button at least once just to see if it does something funny:

hopefully now that we can edit posts, you can go back and toggle that on

@ianfontinell Aha! Thanks. Considering what percentage of threads are questions - maybe that's just a "right now" thing, not a "business as usual" one - I don't get the logic of hiding it to be honest. I would think that anyone starting their first thread would be concentrating on what they can see, rather than poking around to see what might be hidden.

On the plus side, I've just learned that the "Hide" dropdown makes the new thread you're working on totally vanish!

@Kevin4fm There's no self-mark-as-question/solved option on the forum at the moment — noted as a suggestion. For now a clear title (or the category) does the job. Thanks!

@Joker Hmm. Isn't that exactly what I was able to do already though?

I marked it as a question, once @ianfontinell pointed out how / where, then later I marked his answer as the solution. As soon as I did, it was marked as solved. So it would seem the ability is already there, and what's lacking is simply widespread knowledge as to how.

The toggling between regular and question inbetween was just me playing around with the button. Didn't realise that little moment of playfulness would be captured for everyone to see forever more! 😬

@Joker Yup. I've just repeated it in the Member Test section here.

The "Ask as Question" may have defaulted to checked this time, which it didn't before, though I'm not 100% sure I didn't unconsciously toggle it manually.

It then lets me mark a later response as the correct answer. I assume only I, as the originator, or a moderator can do this. That not only marks the thread as "Solved" but also highlights the post marked as the solution by labelling it "Solution" and adding a green border around it.
