iPhone 13 Pro Notification Issues

When I tap a notification for a message either from the home screen or lock screen, it takes me to the message app to view it. The problem is that the red icon does not disappear. I have to tap the message again to make it disappear (as if tapping the message from the pop-up notification or lock screen does not count as a read message)
