FYI: In the US, the military (police, or otherwise) are not allowed to be deployed on local soil, unless there is a national emergency. Theoretically, the National Guard could be deployed, but for a local event like that, it'd have to be deployed by the local Governor... the only way the President gets that authority is if they're called up/into Active Duty...
Long story short, they panicked and asked for something impossible. (I'll be they'd have taken light sabers to defend themselves! or better yet, Phasers [set to stun, of course!])
