Dems who once decried "loose canon" Trump, now defending Biden "going off script"

Ok, dearie.

@bi4smooth said in Dems who once decried "loose canon" Trump, now defending Biden "going off script":
The Dems were all "The President's words matter" at the time...
Now, the President is an even OLDER man: Joe Biden... and one who, while not as often (IMHO: because he's not actively trying to be the headline of every news-cycle!) ALSO has a tendency to put his foot in his mouth!
Going off-script has its perils--that's why people have scripts. At the same time, extemporaneous remarks often give a clearer view of what the person is really thinking, and that's not always good to share in a public setting. But there's a difference between a "Trump moment" and this "Biden moment."
Biden's riff echoed what any sane person in the world world would think: That it's wrong to have a brutal dictator in power who bombs hospitals and kills children.
Trump's more frequent riffs included things like "there were some good people among the white supremacists" and "injecting bleach might cure covid." (For a musical riff on the latter, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPDPzbLFeP4. This is especially useful for those who can't or won't read.)

Please try again.
He said there are good people on both sides of the statue argument. He condemned the neo-nazis.
It reminds me of when Trump was talking about MS13 and the liberal media and the DNC claimed he was talking about ALL brown people.

Will do...although this will require reading, and confronting facts, which you may find distressing:
Here's a partial transcript of your Dear Leader's comments about the "Unite the Right" march in Charlottesville:
Reporter: (Inaudible) "… both sides, sir. You said there was hatred, there was violence on both sides. Are the --"
Trump: "Yes, I think there’s blame on both sides. If you look at both sides -- I think there’s blame on both sides. And I have no doubt about it, and you don’t have any doubt about it either. And if you reported it accurately, you would say."
Reporter: "The neo-Nazis started this. They showed up in Charlottesville to protest --"
Trump: "Excuse me, excuse me. They didn’t put themselves -- and you had some very bad people in that group, but you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides. You had people in that group. Excuse me, excuse me. I saw the same pictures as you did. You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of, to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name." [emphasis added]
(Trump frequently praised Robert E. Lee as a "very fine general," even though he commanded an army that fought against the United States.)
-
Are you saying that a General can't be a "great General" just because we don't like the side they fought on?
Alexander the Great is considered by many as one of, if not the greatest military mind, but he was conquering other nations/peoples.
I don't know enough about General Lee's "military mind" to have a discussion on that, but I think you get my point.
Why does your side get to riot, loot, and murder to get what they but conservatives don't?
The reporter you are quoting is clearly working from the narrative that called it the "summer of love" and "mostly peaceful" while demonizing people who disagreed with it. It's like the Bopsi Twins on CNN saying that protests don't have to be peaceful and only turned against the rioting, looting, and murdering once it affected the polls.
-
@raphjd My bad. I thought we could have a rational, fact-based discussion...but that can be threatening to a simplistic world view.

You can certainly try to "couch" Biden's remarks vis-à-vis "regime change" in Russia - as "harmless" and "misinterpreted" ... all the liberals ARE!
Just the same as when Trump wanted a "bleach infusion" to stop COVID-19, the Trumpites lamented exactly the same thing!
The one thing the Dems (when it was Trump), and the talking heads you now disagree with are agreed upom is:
The words of the President of the United States matter!
I cant find a source, but I'm pretty sure that's a close actual quote from ... candidate Joe Biden ca. 2020!
Biden's off-the-cuff remark may have been intended as a plea to the Russian populace to rid themselves of a tyrant - but it's also perfect fodder for Putin's narrative that the "West" is plotting against the Russian People and that NATO is poised to attack at any moment!
Could Biden have said the same thing WITHOUT providing a "the yanks are coming - after us" soundbite for Putin's propaganda machine? you know it! That's what speechwriters are for!

This is the take-away point from the overall situation: Presidents (and probably everyone else) need a filter between their own thoughts-of-the-moment and what gets released publicly. Biden shares the view held by most people that Putin should not have the power to do what he's doing. Putin likely feels the same way about Biden, but on the rare occasions that Putin's not behind layers of handlers, he can call upon his decades of experience as a professional liar.

You're talking about Biden, right?

Re-read the sentence carefully, although I know that reading comprehension can be challenging:
... on the rare occasions that Putin's not behind layers of handlers, he can call upon his decades of experience as a professional liar.
"he" and "his" refer to Putin. That should be clear from the grammatical construction (my apologies for using multi-syllabic words).
We know that you love Putin because he is adored by the Dear Leader. Perhaps, though, you feel some conflict when you see what Vlad is doing? Or perhaps not. That would require thought.
-
Oh, I thought you were referring to Biden since he's made a career out of lying for the last 50 years.

Your BDS seems to be clouding your ability to read. Perhaps you can check with the local school authorities to see if they have remedial classes for you.
-
Ok, and your TDS makes it so you can't admit that Dear Uncle is a pathological liar.
-
Have you started the book yet or are you worried about having your simplistic worldview bubble pierced?

Yes, which is why his remarks were so refreshing and the fact he's not backing down is making talking heads assplode is beautiful.
So many people who I had good time for are misinterpreting what he said, outside of the deliberately dense dullards at Fox and DSA, that I've stopped following a few dozen people on Facebook and Twitter.

Speechwriters are not noted for their bravery.

Refreshing? His remarks practically panicked our allies - who are even more AFRAID of war than Biden is himself - and fed the Russian paranoia that we were "out to get them" (You know the "red scare" we knew just a few decades ago? Well, they have their own "Yankee scare" culture!)

Unfollowing people because they don't agree with your own interpretation of events ... how Trumpian of you! (You have learned well, grasshopper... the dark side of the Force strong within you!)
Speechwriters are not noted for their bravery.
Do you think Reagan's "Tear Down This Wall" comment was "off the cuff"?
Speechwriters don't PUT the words into the politician's mouths, they POLISH the words that come out of their mouths! If Biden wanted to call for regime change in Russia - without giving Putin the soundbites he'll use to excuse many many more heinous war crimes - his speechwriters could have found a way....
I suspect the NSA is learning to "cull" actual national secrets OUT of Presidential briefings for Biden the same way they did for Trump... loose lips sink ships!

Don't be afraid of a change, and you've likely noticed that the comments have not been retracted and WWIII isn't any closer.

I didn't unfollow them because of them differing in their views, I did so because they are stupid.

Biden didn't set the ball rolling on regime change under the guidance of the dark arts masters at CIA, it was an appeal to the Russian people to make the change.
You'll get it someday, but you'll need to move beyond the stale talking heads who are ascribing motivation and intent where there is no evidence of it.

Change for change's sake is dumb...
I re-iterate: if there was a policy change, it should have been announced in such a way that it didn't scare the pants off our allies! (They were blind-sided by the remark)As for WW-3 being any closer, I'm glad you've got it all figured out... I'll sleep better knowing you already know the future, and the world will be safe because (even though) the old men "in charge" can't keep their dick in their pants and keep themselves from going off half-cocked!

I didn't unfollow them because of them differing in their views, I did so because they are stupid.
Who do you think you're convincing with that? You do know I'm capable of thinking more than one-layer deep (just ask @raphjd - he gets burned by it all the time!)...
You think they're stupid because they don't agree with your viewpoint!
Again, you are what you say you despise in the Trumpites!

Are you getting your viewpoint from "talking heads", or just plain partisan apologists...
(NOTE: When your party is in power, they're apologists... when your party is NOT in power, they're... Trumpites? ROFL!)For what it's worth, you're demonstrating behavior that is exactly like what you decry @raphjd for doing - that is, responding to what you THINK I'm writing, without (apparently) having actually read it!
Mind you - I'm not saying @raphjd doesn't actually do that - only that YOU are doing that here!
The whole COMPLAINT here is that Biden DID NOT HAVE a motivation or intent when he said it! He hadn't really thought it through at all! HE PULLED THAT COMMENT RIGHT OUTTA HIS ASS!
Not to be lost on anyone here: That's EXACTLY the Trump behavior that Biden ran AGAINST - claiming that HE would be better, more disciplined, more polished - because HE had so much experience!
PISH POSH! All that experience got us a feeble-minded old man who can't stop himself from sticking his foot in his mouth - which is the same behavior that made Trump an embarrassment (and a risk/threat) to begin with!

I re-iterate: if there was a policy change, it should have been announced in such a way that it didn't scare the pants off our allies! (They were blind-sided by the remark)Sometimes a shock is in order.
It's been wondrous watching the talking heads have convulsions as they misinterpret, often deliberately, what it meant.

No, they're stupid because of their viewpoint, but thank you for assuming you know what I think.
Again, you are what you say you despise in the Trumpites!
Pathetic.

(NOTE: When your party is in power, they're apologists... when your party is NOT in power, they're... Trumpites? ROFL!)I don't need talking heads to properly interpret a remark, but thanks again for assuming for me.
For what it's worth, you're demonstrating behavior that is exactly like what you decry @raphjd for doing - that is, responding to what you THINK I'm writing, without (apparently) having actually read it!
It really bugs you that I don't give a shit what you think and it won't change my correct interpretation of what happened.
Mind you - I'm not saying @raphjd doesn't actually do that - only that YOU are doing that here!
And?
The whole COMPLAINT here is that Biden DID NOT HAVE a motivation or intent when he said it! He hadn't really thought it through at all! HE PULLED THAT COMMENT RIGHT OUTTA HIS ASS!
Excellent, it demonstrates his understanding of what is going on, in defiance of the narrative that he is cognitively incapable of the office.
Not to be lost on anyone here: That's EXACTLY the Trump behavior that Biden ran AGAINST - claiming that HE would be better, more disciplined, more polished - because HE had so much experience!
The Frumpy one was a batshit fruitcake, and his recent abomination on RSB should put any discussion of his detachment with reality to bed.
PISH POSH! All that experience got us a feeble-minded old man who can't stop himself from sticking his foot in his mouth - which is the same behavior that made Trump an embarrassment (and a risk/threat) to begin with!
What has been the Russian response then, Bl?
