Not that I have been on the site often but cant you view videos without having to sign up for a membership?

You can watch without membership however, as with most things in life, verification has it's benefits. Don't ask me what they are there as I've forgotten but they must have been compelling because I did verify.

Asking for verification of who you are should not make you think scam, in fact it should do the complete opposite. I have been a member at xvideos for almost 10 years now I think and in that time I can't say I've ever got any junk mail that could be attributed to having given my email address to the site. That there is a big plus in my books. Also it is not a part of the MindGeek hypocrisy which gets another plus mark from me.
I just checked, verification isn't even required for membership but it does get you:
- Your profile will appear at the top of the profiles index for a while.
- You can have a clickable link in your profile.
- A small icon will be added so that other users know that your photo is real.
- Generally, more trust from other users.
