I'd love to have a look at the actual study.  Where they asking people "Are you happy?" or were they testing for indicators of contentment?

It would be good to see this research replicated in other countries.

I believe it is the latter. The study asked participants something like "do your relationships make you feel happy?"

"does X make you happy" is quite different from "do you take anti-anxiety medications" or "do you do meaningful work".  There can be quite a few false positives when people think they should say - "my relationship makes me happy".  But a survey on happiness that then compares opposite-sex marriages to same-sex marriages is more robust.

Gay and lesbian couples don't have the gender differences that cause conflicts.

That would be nice too.  As raphjd mentioned, they do not have the conflictive gender issues but also relationships are more complex: they don't depend solely on who you are with, but also about factors of your lifestyle and current situation and how each member deals with their own issues and those of their partner.

I can readily believe it (queer folks TEND to be less judgemental of what is "too much"). I'd still like to see the real data, though.

                  Link: https://www.queerty.com/study-gay-couples-vastly-happier-heterosexual-couples-20171215

A new study strongly suggests same-sex couples are conspicuously happier than their straight brothers and sisters.

Researchers questioned over 25,000 people in the United Kingdom and more than 9,000 in Australia.

The data they collected led them to conclude gay and lesbian couples are quite content and just really feeling themselves.

On the other hand, bisexual people were on average less happy in their relationships than heterosexual or homosexual couples.

The study was conducted by Janeen Baxter and Francisco Perales at the University of Queensland.

“Relationship quality in same-sex couples was as high as in heterosexual couples in the United Kingdom,” they conclude, “and higher in Australia.”

I suspect it is because gay couples often dissolve as soon as the initial infatuation evaporates, whereas straight couples tend to stay together long after that.

Well, after all the shits we went through in the closet. I'd say we deserve a lil bit more happiness than the "normal" ones, right?

Yes! Out of the closet happiness. I was so back in the closet it took me years to find my way out.  :afr2:

Do gay relationships even last long enough to establish a healthy relationship in the first place? I find it hard to believe this study considering A LOT of homo's are cheaters and like to ho around with every ab monster they see.

                                    Self-hatred much?!

I'm pushing near 30 years with the same man and never cheated.    Sure, we argue (much less as time goes by) but it would be strange if we agreed on everything.

Looking at other guys IRL or watching porn isn't cheating or being a ho.

Not likely, considering how many gay men who are single it's clear their relationships didn't last.

A lot of single people, regardless of sexual orientation, are single because they don't want to be tied down or can't be bothered.

A hetero friend of mine is single because he loves to travel and do extreme stuff.    He's a great looking guy that could get any girl he wanted if he did the "shopping trip to Paris" type travel.    That's not him.

I'm lucky.  I found a man who wants the same thing out of life; a mini farm, with say about 5 to 10 acres.  Not many fags want that.  If we had the money, we'd move in a heartbeat.  Until then, we do the best we can in town.

                                          Oh yeah.

Let's not forget all the studies that show that hetero guys say they get more from Bromances than from a girlfriend.

I believe it's true. First of all gay men are far more open and honest about things, and most of the most successful relationships are not strictly monogamous my own included. We play with others, but right now at least only together. Lack of fire in the sheets is a cause of a lot of divorces. Secondly, gay men don't typically rush into relationships - well not nearly like hetero couples tend to. LOTS of bed hopping is normal for most gay guys, let's face it - women in particular even now in 2018 don't normally get that kind of latitude without a lot of really unkind blowback. So they wind up marrying the first goofball to whip out a ring with a WHOLE lot of unanswered questions. Then everyone is all shocked when 3 years in she gets busted fucking his best friend lol. Personally I don't believe man was meant to be monogamous.
