The guys used in Bearflims these days are just plain ugly.I used to like XXXL,and P.R. Simon stuff,but both have gone. Every now and again' The Guy Site' of all places have a nice guy,in particular Jared and Chance(when he's not too toned and doesn't shave his body hair!),but they don't appear that often. I find better looking guys on the webcam sites nowadays like Cam4 and Chaturbate than in porn.

Even WorkingmenXXX ("Hobofoot") has started using clean-shaven, svelt married guys as opposed to the guys that they used-to (Truckers, Bikers & Homeless)

To be honest, anymore to find hot bear stuff, I turn to xtube. There are tons of sexy amateur REAL bears there. Someone mentioned Manhunter….boy howdy they had some good stuff.

Nice to see others chiming in on this.
When I first discovered bear porn in the late 90s/early 2000s it seemed like most of what I encountered matched my tastes. It was truly refreshing because I did not realize until then that there were guys like me into ordinary men. In fact, I did not consider myself gay up until that point because all of the gay men I saw were the exact opposite of myself or what I found attractive.
A similar thing is happening in the "daddy" genre. So many videos are coming out lately with "daddies" in their late 30s/early 40s — at least that's what they look like.

I agree with all this, I like proper musclebears too but generally it's mostly hunks who are called bears just because they've run out of shaving cream for the week. At best, it's re-branding of the usual porn type with a designed beard.
I've also noticed the decline with bearfilms etc. A while ago I thought hairy and raw was about to change its name to simply "and raw"
but I did enjoy their latest video (chris/sam).

anyway,
i don't mind muscle-guys "taking over", since a lot of them are way too sexy for me to care, but for the integrity of the community i find that it's nice to stay true to the original model. but it's not bad to keep the definition open. it kind of angered me to see a definition of the bear community be something SUPER vague like "being a bear isn't much of a body-type, but rather a mindset".

Well, we never put into question whether the muscle guys are hot or not. They can be REALLY hot. But unless they are muscle-BEARS, they are not bears… there's already the hunk category for them! It's annoying when people start calling any guy a bear.

The earlier days of the Bear community in Toronto was pretty shamanistic - a lot of the guys were coming out of the Radical Faeries and there's a big 'Native American' contingent in the Toronto gay community. There were Bear Feasts focused on food made of berries and/or honey. People did drumming and talked about their spiritual connection to Bear totems. I would say that being a bear needed more than having a hairy and non-sculpted body - there were attitudes toward masculinity and pleasure that were outside diets and gyms.A 35+ Gym Rat who can't seem to lose that last 10 lbs of body fat is pretty far away from what I'd consider to be the essence of being a Bear.
