      I think there are certain situations where it is better not to come out than to do so. For instance, if you live in a very conservative community

        Clearly, if it's a life or death situation then it's better to be safe.

        In the "modern world",  there's very little reason not to come out.

        It's still not safe to come out in ethnic countries; former Soviet bloc, muslim, black-centric, and whatnot.

          The ethnic country bit is obviously tough - I am talking about the "modern world"

          Coming out is not always the answer

            Obviously, don't come out (yet) if it will threaten your life and/or living situation.

            But beyond that, I'd say go for it.

              The risk of losing almost everyone you knew so far is one of those situations I guess. This is a real risk if you live in a conservative community.
