The moral high ground and the left
-
I hope you see that your fellow liberals are down voting you because you aren't towing the liberal party line.
It doesn't matter which side advocates for free speech, liberals will hate it. This shows that most liberals find it acceptable to set use violence to prevent free speech and agree with setting fire to occupied building to prevent free speech.
So far, only 2 liberals have defended free speech and condemned the violence.
That is why I no longer call myself a liberal and now despise liberals. Only a tiny fraction of modern liberals are even remotely sensible.

This is a serious problem on the left and very few want to call it out. Bill Maher, who I also don't always agree with, speaks about it all the time. Only one side is committing very real acts of VIOLENCE to stop people from speaking. I do not care if a speaker is literally making the argument that all black people are subhuman or that all gays will go to hell, THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY IT. Why not make arguments against what they are saying instead of setting fires and randomly punching people who have not committed any acts of physical violence against you? Is it because this new wave of liberals do not know how to frame arguments? This literally is no different than Muslims wanting to physically harm people who make fun of Muhammad or draw pictures of him.

This kind of behavior needs to be called out, not ignored and not falsely equated to what conservatives do because conservatives do not currently behave this way. Barack Obama participated in a forum at a college and NO conservatives caused a riot to stop him, not one person did anything to stop him from coming. Bill Clinton spoke at my old high school last year while Hillary was running for president and once again, not one conservative person said a single word to stop him and the county I grew up in has always been a deep red Republican county. This truly is a problem only on the left and more people on the left need to start condemning it. You guys can down vote me all you want but you can't hide from the reality that the left is losing control when it comes to this. You can't say conservatives are the same as they were back in the 1950s and 1960s when in reality they aren't the ones blocking people from doing things. If it were both sides, where are the instances where conservatives are blocking Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Dr. Cornel West, Melissa Harris-Perry, Cory Booker or anyone else on the left and far-left??? Show me proof or admit that the false equivalence argument is :crazy2:

Lots of right wing groups have routinely called out and protested at speaking events of left leaning people. The heritage foundation even pays people to do it. The focus on the family organization has events scheduled in advance to protest speakers that they don't agree with and they and others like to gang up and try and force speakers down.
It pretty much the same from both sides, unfortunately. Look at many of Hillary Clintons campaign stops. She had people try and disrupt as much as Trump did, probably more. -
The difference is; liberals advocate for and use violence to prevent free speech, while conservatives simply protest.
Sure, now you are seeing counter protests by conservatives where things are getting violent. However, you have to consider that there would be no violence if the liberals weren't doing their bullshit. Portland OR has had violent clashes because conservatives are trying to keep traffic moving, while liberals are trying to shut down the city.

Libtards only care about group rights. They have no distinctiveness, no individual qualities, no precision. It's all borg, all hive, all sheep mentality. This is subliminal pandering like a horse being led with a carrot. Of course a transgender person will entail all the rights of an individual, but when you start speaking about transgender rights, you start to disassociate from the family unit and start thinking instead of blood family but mentality driven false family ideologies.
You don't speak for me. You are not my family. You can only speak for yourself. Rosie O'Donnell does not speak for me. Madonna does not speak for me. Michael Moore does not speak for me. Colbert does not speak for me. Obama does not speak for me. Ellen does not speak for me. YOU do not speak for me. I am an individual and only I speak for me. I don't care about group rights. That's pandering and group think like sheep and trying to box everyone into a victimhood mentality like OH you're one of us! I'm not one of you. I'm distinct you stupid bitches. I'm my own person, and I am not boxed into your little concept of what a gay person or your idea of a gay family is. Honestly you're just too stupid for me to want to associate with. You can literally go fuck yourself and get beheaded by ISIS since you love them so much and act like they're such wonderful people - go get it. I don't care.

I'm sorry but there is a HUGE difference between protesting at a Clinton campaign stop and setting fire to buildings and cars to stop someone from speaking. I went to some Clinton campaign stops and no one ever shouted over her or Bill or anyone else who was speaking and this was in South Carolina. This is a red state and no one did anything disrespectful or harmful to stop anyone on the left from speaking. Agent Orange did call for his supporters to commit acts of violence at his rallies and there were a few incidents, but nothing on the level of what we've been seeing on the left. Are you aware that death threats (illegal btw) and acts of violence stopped Ann Coulter from giving a speech? Name a time in the past year where death threats kept a liberal from giving a speech. Once again, not even a left-wing psycho like Cornel West has been stopped from speaking. I am liberal and I am in no way trying to support conservatives, but they have a legitimate argument right now.Edit: There was one dumb young black millenial pro-Bernie girl who disrupted Hillary in my state at a private event bringing up a political statement that Hillary made back in the 90s, but she was quickly thrown out and Hillary was able to finish what she was saying. That was pretty much as close Hillary got to being disrupted, and no one was hurt. Compare that to the destruction caused on college campuses to keep right-wing speakers from speaking. You simply cannot make the both sides arguments. I mean damn, look at what's happening in New Orleans right now. Are the pro-slavery and pro-confederacy supporters of those monuments rioting and burning down the city to keep those disgusting monuments up? There's been a few shoving but they have been protesting relatively peaceful compared to those idiots on the college campuses.

BLM hijacked the the Orlando vigil, not conservatives.
BLM hijacked countless PRIDE events, not conservatives.

Are some of you really comparing heckling aimed at Hillary Clinton to violence committed by people on the left to stop conservative speakers? Heckling ≠ violence :crazy2:
There are arguments that can be made for violence when it comes to self-defense in a few rare extreme cases, but NOT to stop someone from speaking. That is ridiculous and I will continue to condemn it, and I will not buy the "both sides" argument because it is not both sides.
-
This has always been a thorny subject for me. On the one hand, I do condemn the violence aimed at shutting down and preventing someone from exercising their right to free speech.
BUT…
I do NOT agree that free speech should come as a blank check where you get to say any hateful, repulsive thought that comes to mind and have ZERO consequence for your actions.Because just as you have the right to free speech- people also have the right to react to what you say and do.
So there is a slippery slope between being able to say what you want, and expecting people to just sit aside and let you keep doing it.Quick example- Say you and your partner are having a nice quiet dinner at a restaurant, not bothering anybody. Then some religious nut who objects to your lifestyle chooses to exercise free speech and begin a heated sermon right beside your table, telling you how you are going to hell, and burn like the whore/abomination/devilspawn that you are.
Does the establishment eject him and "stifle" his free speech? What about your rights to a quiet dinner? And say he does get ejected- he then hangs around outside and as you both exit and walk back to another place for a nightcap- he follows you and continues to spew his hateful statements. What then? Are you allowed to warn him off? Physically push him away? Get into a shouting match?
On a larger scale, the same can be raised about people who have a larger following than our random nutjob- say Milo Yiannopoulos - he invokes free speech to shamelessly attack and incite hatred with whoever it is he chooses to target- does he get to say it with impunity? There needs to be accountability. I guess my point is that as with any right, it comes with some responsibilities. And it's not always so easy to remain calm in the face of unfettered hatred.

Private property doesn't have the same rules.
If that preacher was standing on the sidewalk, then he has every right to do it.
If he followed the couple, then that is harassment, which is illegal.

Libtards only care about group rights.
You immediately lost me with "libtards," and there are very few people on here (or anywhere) that are more conservative than I am. Calling names doesn't further discussion, but does seek to divide.

HRC and her team handled that very poorly. This was actually an event where you had to PAY to get admittance, and HRC was not expecting to be questioned, but as someone running for office, she should have answered her. The problem was HRC and her team never said anything off the cuff. Everything had to be vetted and tested. It's one of the reasons she had such disastrous numbers for likability and trustworthiness.
I realize most people don't like DJT, but he doesn't hide or hedge his bets. He says what he thinks, and at the "core" of what he says is the truth– as he sees it. To me, it is refreshing to not feel like someone is just blowing smoke. DJT is also a really decent human being who is portrayed horribly. My husband has been in business with him for over 20 years and has even been sued by DJT, and they are still friendly. He doesn't hold grudges. Also, look at his kids and compare him to the kids of some other people with the same wealth. His kids are upstanding and aren't in the tabloids. That speaks volumes, too. My father is a self-made millionaire. Growing up much better off than most people I can tell you, in all honesty, it is easier to go off the rails and NOT achieve than it is to put in the work to succeed. -
The only high ground the right have is the mountain off bullshit they produce.
the right wing has been manufacturing a jet-force stream of bullshit since at least the 1960's and it's astonishing that people still sip that poison tbqh.
