Is it possible to abstain from sex for a certain period of time?

Sex is fun. Sex is life. And that's my problem. It's been such a huge part of my life that I often fail to do other things. This 2017 I want to abstain from this habit as it's been a distraction to me. Don't worry, it's just for a definite time, like one year or two. I've indeed changed my number and deleted my previous sex partners' contacts to avoid temptation. I just badly want to pay attention to my current career since I observe that my frequent sexual encounters just leave me out of focus.

Has anyone here already done it successfully? If yes, would you mind sharing with me some tips on how to? Thanks

I don't have sex since 2014, that year I tried to be a “casanova” and I did it with three guys in one month (that's my personal record). I felt like a slut afterwards even if they were only a few guys, and the orgasm weren't enough or so different than those that I got with jerking off only, so I stopped.

Then I tried to have serious relationships (in each of them I asked a minimal period of 5/6 months before having sex), and none of the bf's lasted long enough, so 2015 was a big waste of time. I broke up with the last one in February of this year and realize that, now that I tried both sex-only/having-a-bf and none of them work out, I'm not gonna search for anything else right now… I even quit jerking off since 9th of this month.

I can't give you an advice without being a hypocrite bc I didn't have the same addiction to sex as you, but I hope that my story could help you to see that other people can deal living without sex, so isn't the main thing of life and it shouldn't be.

Btw, I quit masturbating changing porn for TV shows and books from college. The basic idea was:

Read (while listening to music that helps me focus) a chapter of one book.
Watch a TV episode (as a free-time to relax)
Read a chapter of the same/another book.
Watch another episode...
Repeat the cycle everyday after lunch (1 hour to relax immediately after eating it and before doing the routine)

I don't feel lazy anymore.

Indeed you can be without sex for a long period of time. Last time I had sex I was 19, I'm 31 now, I'm just starting to have sex again.

From your short paragraph I might dare to say (and please don't feel offended) that you migt have a sex addiction, as you say your sexual encounters leave you out of focus and are interfering with your career. You said it: 'I often fail to do other things'.

Staying without sex is definitively doable, but in the rare case you feel the need to unload with another person (is not the same as just wanking off),and you stray from your 'no-sex' goal you might feel guilty and that would hurt you in the long run.

I would advice you try to analyze WHY sex makes you put other things on stand by, so you can learn to rule your urges instead of them ruling you. That way you might not even need to quit sex at all! Meditate about it and maybe ask professional help.

when I was from 18-25 I would do 3 guys in a row from early evening to night time I never felt like a slut but more like an horny bitch and that was fine with me Now I'm old last time I has sex was humm may 2013 I guess. I dont even miss it but I had so much sex between 18-25 I guess I'm set for the rest of my life

Well… I only have sex once every 2 or 3 months, and it's not a big deal to me. So... it is quite possible.

Thanks for the responses. Perhaps all I can do for now is to limit my sex encounters to 1 per week. I just can't imagine my penis to be in my pants in those whole two quarters while there are a lot of asses hungry for it. It wouldn't hurt to at least have fun in a week, would it? Hehe.

if sex distracts you so much, maybe you just use sex as an excuse to avoid your responsibilities?

i did that in one period, but i was aware of that. i just couldn't help the urge, and i was stuck in a life of obligations i didn't want to have anymore, so yeah… there goes my slut marathon. :-X

anyway, enjoy it while it lasts, u won't be able to have a choice whether to have sex of not forever

Like anything in life, moderation is the key.
Overeating, drinking too much, shopping, exercise, etc. all of these things and more can consume your life; a little bit at a time is okay but not to overindulge.
At least at this moment you realize that it is a distraction; do something about it.
BTW, most guys think about sex all the time we just don't do it so much.

I'm in a relationship that has been going through some problems and we haven't had sex in 1.5 years. We sleep together naked and kiss a little bit but the sexual act hasn't been done. It is a long story that I don't want to share here but I think in time things will change as the love between us is strong.
Sex is not the whole purpose of being alive.
