Simple way to explain it would be online classifieds. You can buy, sell, look for: sex, friends. Reach out to people you have lost contact with.

For a Curious Aussie who is very much a Poof with Victorian ( not the state i live in , but the era ) Sensibilities
would someone please explain what this craigslist doomajiggamy thing is , i see people discussing it on forums and hear it in North American shows , but don't really know what it is.Imagine eBay, but all local and done person-to-person. And personal ads, room-mates, pets, appliances, etc. Like an old newspaper.
And unfortunately I did use this terrible site, when I was first trying things out, before Grindr. Yuck, you can expect what you find on there.

Yes, though I think smartphone apps have mostly replaced the need for Craigslist … which in turn was starting to replace the old cruising scene that existed way before my time. Tearooms and adult arcades and that stuff were the Grindr of their day, I think. I remember reading about busts in a local park when I was 15 and being so intrigued with the concept of it, haha.
There's also not much different (in my opinion) about going to a club with the full intent of getting laid within the same night, save for the fact that you have a better chance to make sure you wind up with someone you're really into and there's less judgmental, social stigma attached to getting your one-night-stand jollies that way.

Just make smart choices about who you let into your house when you are alone, and smart choices about where you go. In Lexington a few years back a guy was tied up and robbed at gun point in his own house when he invited a stranger over. Worse things have happened, as well. I always meet in public and make sure someone else knows where I am going.
