Well in India people are mostly homophobic. The authorities also doesn't help improve this as our dear Supreme Court re-criminalised gay sex. It actually comes under Section 377 of Indian Penal Code which criminalises any form of unnatural sex that includes fellatio and sodomy.

Things have started to slowly change with people doing gay pride rallys but it as long as the authorities don't change the laws it would not be very helpful.

I think it is all about Religion, although Religious countries tend to be more vocal about their intolerance. While, you have in Democracies an tendency to look away and finish with an "was asking for it", such as "That boy was wearing a skirt and went to party. He was asking to be beaten/raped/murder".

Still, if you check LGBT murder charters, you see can see countries on top, like Brazil (where gay marriage is legal), who are likely to be on your travel plans. Homophobia is still endemic, and is most likely to still that way (a part from Madonna saying it is over ::)). Violence against women is still a trouble, and we been fighting it for more than 100 years. 😞

Every islamic country and pretty much every African country. Outside of these I'd say Korea - people think homosexuality is a disease brought by foreigners.

India for sure. People lay more emphasis on "What will others say?" than what is best for themselves. This is a country where even love marriages between straight couples are not widely accepted. It will take too long (maybe about 20-30 years) for the situation in India to become at least as open as in the US.
