You aren't alone. Not sure about a week, but I am cool with 2-3 days. I do find it to be a European thing more than a US thing, however. It's mostly driven by how expensive water is. In Germany, I always felt my water bill was very high, but I went over with an "American" usage pattern. Gas/petrol is the same. Dirt cheap in the US, expensive as hell in Europe. No one cranks up a car to go to a McDonalds two blocks away.
