This is the story of how Shyam encounters his present and how Mac deals with his. The short film is completely captured in a complex style of narration, starting and culminating in the present.

This film has been shot on a FLIP pocket handy-cam, with no lighting, special effects or make up.

Storyline

The Pink Mirror pits two Indian drag queens against a westernized gay teenager in a battle to woo a handsome hunk. It's a clash of the east and west. Who will win? The drag queens, who are expert in the art of seduction with their wit, innuendo and cunning or the young teenager who is saucy, slutty and sly? Underneath the campy humorous exterior, the film is an exploration of the Indian gay landscape and understanding of the deep, humanly tender bondings that exist between drag queens in India who form unique, non-patriarchal families. Using the Bollywood soap idiom of song, dance and drama and for the first time in the Indian drag queens' very own language, Hindi, the film also explores other veiled issues related to the Indian gay community: the lurking threat of HIV/AIDS.

Storyline

In 1995, Indian Government charged Bollywood superstar Milind Soman with 'obscenity' for appearing nude in a shoe advertisement.
Under the rhetoric of preserving nation's morality, these charges were carried-out using old colonial laws that are still evoked to restrict desire & persecute homosexuality in India today. Homosexuality is not a crime in India today but it is still a taboo.
Milind Soman Made Me Gay is a conceptual documentary about desire & notions of home & belonging. The film employs a unique mix of visual elements along with voice over narration to juxtapose memories of the filmmaker's own past against lives of three gay South Asian men living in the diaspora. Overshadowing these nostalgic explorations of life 'back home,' are harsh realities of homophobia & racism in USA.
