      She praises new EU law to arrest journalists they don't like.

      https://reclaimthenet.org/eu-media-freedom-act-allows-arrests

      New EU Media “Freedom Law” Allows for Journalist Arrests if Justified by “Public Interest”

      Alongside language about protecting reporters, the regulation authorizes arrests, sanctions, and surveillance of journalists whenever authorities say it serves an “overriding reason in the general interest.”

      Ursula von der Leyen defends it Orwell/1984-style - claims her power to silence you increases your freedom.

      Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, hailed the legislation’s arrival on social media, saying, “A free and independent press is an essential pillar of our democracy. With our European Media Freedom Act, we want to improve their protection. This allows journalists to continue their important work safely and without disruption or intimidation.”

      ...except by her.

      Despite being sold as a shield for press freedom, the structure of the act gives Brussels and national authorities the ability to decide which voices remain active and which can be silenced.

      Governments can bypass [any & all journalist protections] if...deemed proportionate to a vaguely defined “general interest.”

      Chilling effect, culture of strict self-censorship & absolute fawning on Brussels, is what they want.

      Ursula watches protestors taken to jail -and even as they are taken to jail- she yells "They can be happy they are in a free country! In Moscow they would be in jail!"

      One comment says, "Not just any protester. A candidate running for European Parliament Elections 2024, in opposition. This took place in the middle of elections with total silence from so called 'Free media'. Monday will be sitting in court in Helsinki for a peaceful protest."

        @blablarg18

        Leftists love these Orwellian laws.

        The UK arrests 12,000 people a year (according to the Free Speech Union) for social media "crimes" while claiming that they have freedom of speech.

        You get longer prison sentences for speech crimes than you do for rape.

          @raphjd Gaslighting is key to modern tyrannies. "What, I just stabbed you? No I didn't. You just stabbed you. What's wrong with you?"
