Taking politics way too far.

Most conservatives support some gun control.
Maybe in the UK, but what gun control measures does the NRA and most US conservatives support?
-
You won't find many conservatives who support automatic weapons, sawed-off shotguns, etc. except at gun clubs and whatnot.
There's a huge difference between gun control and taking away our guns that liberals want.

There may be are some liberals who would like that. But none I know. I am a gun owner (not here in Poland, but in the US). I would like to see the same kinds of regulations to gun ownership as there is to driving a car, for example. The same kinds of regulations that exist in most countries. where 327 people are not being shot every day.

Maybe liberals shouldn't be so weak on crime and making excuses for criminals.
-
@raphjd And when you look at murder rates in the US, 7 of the 10 states with the highest rate are very red.

Maybe both sides need to come together and start passing legislation that tackles the root causes of crime. Maybe take a look at countries with much lower rates of crime, and figure out what they are doing that we are not?
-
When you look at the states with the lowest gun crime rates, it's full of red states.
Illinois, for example, has a high gun crime rate because of Chicago and East St Louis. The rest of the state is quite peaceful.
Missouri, likewise, has a high gun crime rate thanks to St Louis.
Baton Rouge LA has a high gun crime rate, but the area that became St George (LA's newest city) has a low gun crime rate, even when it was part of Baton Rouge.
-
@raphjd Exactly. So maybe politics has less to do with crime rates than do socio-economic factors? It's fairly easy to see that poverty and easy access to firearms are very important factors. Let's try to treat the disease rather than slapping a band-aid on it.
-
But arrest and release isn't doing anything to reduce crime. Refusing to prosecute countless types of crimes also doesn't help reduce crime.
Liberals don't want criminals in jail.
Strangely, liberals were against the DOJ prosecuting Hunter Biden for his gun crime.
-
@raphjd Well, I know a lot of liberals, but none who would agree with that. Statements such as "Liberals want criminals to run free" sound more like a Fox News sound byte or a GOP campaign slogan than anything based in reality. I'm not saying that there are not DAs who are too lenient, but sweeping generalizations are just not accurate. I think there are cases where first time offenders for relatively minor crimes should not just be locked up as it seems the US, privatized, for-profit prison system is more of a criminal training school than rehab. I also think white collar criminals and rich offenders get off too easily.
In any case, as the economy of the US has improved over the past few years, the crime rate has decreased as well. I think criminals should indeed be punished, but I also think that society will be served better in the long run if we try to focus on eliminating the root causes.
-
It's strange that you don't know any liberal who believes that, but somehow liberal prosecutors and others get elected who do believe that.
Like with Tony Blair decriminalizing bank card fraud for any single transaction below £10,000, when you decriminalize things of course crime rates drop.
You can thank Biden's 1996 crime bill for privatized prisons and throwing people in jail for minor crimes.
You may remember we talked about Jamal Newton in NYC. He has more than 50 felonies since they got rid of cash bail and he kept getting arrested and allowed out because of the laws/policies Ultra Conservatives in New York and NYC passed. I'm being sarcastic, of course. It was the laws and policies of the liberals in NY and NYC that caused it.
Countless blue areas are becoming "food deserters" because of the pro-shoplifting policies of liberals.
