Torchwood: Miracle Day and Doctor Who Continuity

Last summer I watched the newest Torchwood series Miracle Day. Initially I found the premise of this series interesting, but as the series stretched on it became repetitive and predictable. I also was very disappointed in the fact the show seemed to give up on continuity with the Doctor Who series. We routinely see The Doctor traveling to this same time period/stream and finding no mention or notice of this supposedly world-wide event. This I just couldn't get past.
I assume they were probably trying to distance themselves from the Doctor Who franchise in order for the show would be followable for American audiences of whom, for the most part, have little to no knowledge of the Doctor Who franchise.
Even though I was disappointed I still hope that this is not the last we hear of Torchwood.
Anyone else a Doctor Who/Torchwood fan? What are you feelings about the newest Torchwood incarnation?

They definitely were going for the mass market, rather than the die-hard Dr Who franchise fans. I guess that's what happens to British stuff when it crosses the pond.
I wonder how much of it has to do with the BBC pushing Russell T Davies (creator/writer of QAF and many others) out of Dr Who, even though he's the one that brought it back and made it the massive success that it is. From that, he created Torchwood and the Sarah Jane Adventures. The Sarah Jane Adventures sadly died with Elisabeth Sladen earlier this year. The BBC can't take Torchwood away from Russell, but they do own all the rights to Dr Who.
As a side note, the Red Dwarf movie would have been made years ago, IF the creators would have agreed to do a total recast. Hugh Grant was to play Lister. I don't remember the rest of the recast, but Hugh Grant as Lister really sticks in my mind.

Never saw Torchwood but i have seen a lot of Doctor Who episodes. Especially the Tom Baker seasons.

"Torchwood-Children of Earth" was amazing and also one of those rare times when television horrified me. Out disgusted even Tosh 2.0 (the only time television made me vomit). In fact I would offer up Children of Earth as one of television's golden moments.
Miracle Day is just plain awful. Such a waste it should be stricken from the records with a severity not seen since Akhenaten! My mind cannot even comprehend how on one hand you have Children of Earth and the other Miracle Day. Blame America. Even the name seems like some sort of attempt at courting Americans. Even thinking about it now has gotten me upset again. Phooey.
To not end on sour note and to reemphasize genius Children of Earth is quite possibly perfect. I include a photo of the 'horror box' to entice viewing.

Doctor Who can maintain its own continuity, without harmonizing with the continuity of other shows
I could mention the whole UNIT dating thing…but I don't have to go that far back. There are continuity problems with nu who. Why does the Master change his face twice after leaving Utopia? We seem to see different explanations for the end of the Earth. The whole Time War thingy. The Moon is an egg (maybe not a continuity problem, just lame-ass )
