There is no "reveal" here, as Smithers has been out since 2016 – the same year that your HuffPost "news" citation was published.
In the past 5 1/2 years since this was actually news, there have been numerous subplots concerning Smithers and the gay angle. You may like The Simpsons, but you seem not to follow it.
