I don't think we should limit our downloads, our bandwidths. Why should friends need an invite? We should demand that this site is open and free for everyone, it's all there, click of a button and it's done.

Is it because the owner of the site wants to profit from other peoples torrents?

We are a private site. This helps us try to keep our members safe.

This is a sharing site, not a direct download site.

Demand all you want, but remember that this is a private site.

The site owner pumps all the money back into the site, which is why he has a full-time job, outside of here. I don't know the figures, but it's not cheap to run all the servers needed to keep this site running.

@herman: This is a file sharing site. Every GB you download has been uploaded by someone else. If nobody uploads, nobody can download. The rules are there to encourage people to share, and they seem to work pretty well.

If the "sharing" concept is a problem for you, I suggest you switch over to "pay to play" download sites.
