Rant & Rave !!!

12am EST is 6am CET, which means most of the mods are most likely sleeping or on their way to bed.
3am… That would mean someone lives in the middle of the Atlantic, I somehow doubt that.

-
Certain people have repeatedly shown that they know what they are doing and can be trusted. Sure, everyone can make the odd mistake now and again, but that's not going to crater the site.
I'm all for having a "white list" for trusted uploaders. The problem comes from the users who aren't white listed and they scream and moan that we hate and don't trust them. This could tear the site apart.

For sure. The "Whites" versus the "Non-Whites"–if it tore America apart in the 60's and prior, it will surely divide us.

i understand the downtime for the mods that are sleeping…
and i don't think a white list will make a once in a while uploader than upset...I have permission to have 3 torrents active..am i going to get upset if anyone else have more than that..NO
should anyone feel left out cause they can only have one active torrent..no its based on speed..
so a white list will be based on how often someone post and how fast...
my up speed is pretty good...which means my vids can be shared quickly but if two or so hours go by and my torrent is just sitting there...its one less or more torrents i can't share...or won't because i see it as a waste of time...
not to sound like and ASS...LOL..but those who share the most or have the best seeding speed...are to me a very important bunch...and what makes torrents sites like this one work great...
I understand the reason for this...but if a user can be trusted...why not put them on such "white list"....the whole point of the site its to share...
i'm all for the "white list"....and trust has to be earned...those who may get upset which such list..need only to earn the trust...simple...
but its just my opinion....

A white list sounds like a great idea. If someone like derektheking has consistantly made good uploads and is willing to use his super connection to upload more of course he should be trusted to continue doing so. Let's face it, regular inicial seeders are in the minority on this and every other torrent site. The little things can and do make a huge difference. The torrent approval rule was put in place to stop the overly eager uploader from posting without checking for duplicates or rules violations, not to frustrate the regular contributer into posting less.
Luckily I've not had to wait long for a torrent to be approved but with my 3megs up/10megs down connection I have to choke my downloads to a standstill to properly seed a new torrent. A long wait would make me think twice before upping the next one.
The admins on this site have got a lot of work. The few I know are great guys and I'd hate to see them getting ragged on for not being available 24/7.
No one could get angry about a white list if the prerequisites were clearly defined. For example, 30-50 good uploads and your white listed.
Would that be unfair or make this an even better site?
-
I have to agree with Derek and Lucky.
I think something like a whitelist would work. Seeders that have in the past made good posts should be rewarded with something like this. 30+ sounds fair to me. My last torrent I uploaded sat for over 2 hours to have it verified, which was a waste of 2 hours of bandwith with nothing being taken.
I would have uploaded 30+ torrents since I joined this site and I dont think I have made a mistake and posted a dup….
Anyway it's food for thought.....

FOOTNOTE:
Saturday 1 December 2007 I uploaded a Gay Themed Movie @ 8:57AM Local Time (Australia) EST. Server time was Friday 30 November 23:50:34. (time stamp on system gen msg advising me that I have to have the uploaded torrent verified.) There is sat for almost 5 hours until at server time Saturday 1 December 2007 04:44:19 I got the email saying it had been approved.
I understand about the time differences but during this download time of my PC not being able to upload anything else. I watched 3 or 4 Mod's come online and go offline without approving my upload. Beforehand I followed the rules to see if there was already a torrent of the same name. etc etc
This was a complete waste of a full mornings upload time - not good enough!

That sounds odd. Even though I'm house hunting and working crazy hours to finish up this years billings for work, I always check the pending torrent list.
I can't remember what I was doing at that time {probably in bed}, but if I was on and your torrent showed up as seeded properly, I would have approved it.

From my point of view, the problem is that all the mods are from the US and Western Europe only where are limited in a few time zones and their working time is the others members' sleeping time. The number of members from Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America is blossoming, why don't we add some more mods from Asia (Australia, China,…), Latin America? We have a category named Latino here but only one staff member's from there. How unfair! No white list's needed if we have at least one mod online at anytime to approve torrents. I'm not saying that we need a mod for each time zone but once you're online, you stay there for at least 2 or 3 hours, that's enough. Of course, we must choose the mods carefully but as a matter of fact, we need more of them.
-
I'll start the ball rolling - Having seeded a few Gay themed Movies here on this site, Not a lot of you guys take the time and leave a "thank-you" - I have heard things like "because I download your movie thats thanks enough"
Why not start showing who gets thanked most and who thanks most on the front page?

Ohh Thomas - you voice our team's deepest wishes!
Of course, we must choose the mods carefully but as a matter of fact, we need more of them.
If you could convince some of our users to apply for that job, we would be eternally thankful - but what more can we do than ask our users on the homepage, in variuos threads…?

You do know that Latin america is included in the US timezones?
There's a mod from "Latin America", more nitpicky from Brazil.
We also have a category called "shemale", but afaik we do lack shemales in the staff too. Sorry but your reasoning fails.
Out of the top 25 countries, only 5 were from asia (and/or in similar timezones), with around 4-4.5k users in total (most from Australia).
I don't agree that we need more mods. Maybe one from asia/australia. I stay around as long as there's something I can do, being "forced" to stay a set amount of hours is… eh... for lack of better word: bleh. Some of the mods do also have a pretty "flexible" sleeping pattern, so we might be awake when asia (or any other distant timezone is awake) and uploading torrents.
There's amazingly not 239428349024 torrents queued up and waiting for approval. At the time of writing only two are seeded, but the uploaders have other torrents active and there's 21 "invisible" aka unseeded torrents in the list.(The views in this post are my own and not necessary the views of the rest of the mods/staff.

I'm from the uk and i got up 10 min ago
(its almost 3am my time)sgmusuk
Ps. That was to prove one of F00F points

I wasn't suggesting that mod's stay up all hours of the night - what I was trying to say is that it was annoying for me to watch mod's comjng and going without approving my torrent.
In other words regardless of the hour I would have thought mod's should be checking for any torrents waiting approval. Which did not happen with me this time.
This is why I think something like rewarding a good seeder with a "whitelist" would work.

Yes I know that Latin America is included in the US timezones. You don't need to be forced to stay online so long if you don't want to. If you have more people to share the load of work with you, is it better? Some of the mods have flexible sleeping time but not all of them do and they can sleep and wake up late like anybody else. I don't say that you are not good in moderating but why not force yourself so much? You love GT.ru and so do I.
@FOOF:Out of the top 25 countries, only 5 were from asia (and/or in similar timezones), with around 4-4.5k users in total (most from Australia).
They are not many right now but the number is rising and why not prepare for the prospective members from Asia? GT.ru's growing, it may not have 239428349024 torrents queued up now but how about tomorrow? If a guy from Mongolia (for example) wants to upload a torrent, he has to wait for the mods in the US and Europe to wake up and approve his torrent. How unfair! There are gays in Asia and there are many many of them and not only gays from US and Europe can upload a torrent, right? No offense, bro but you seem to under appreciate us in the Asia.

If vyou have a look at our home page, you will see
@Home:We need french, Asia/East Europe moderators!
and if you follow the link you'll see this thread. Now it's your turn to guess how many have reacted on our plea. We might have a bet - if you lose you have to apply for a mod
-
I started to like being a mod and then suddenly, I read the last line of your topic mgr. LOL 'cos I'm a full time student. Besides that, I've got to confess that I have not much information about Bit Torrent around the world. In Vietnam, Bit Torrent still is strange to many people, they want to download files directly, not sharing them. It's gonna change soon, that's why I said you need more Asian mods to help spread Bit Torrent in Asia.
-
…and then suddenly, I read the last line of your topic mgr.
At first let me tell you - it's not my topic but raphjd's. And for asian languages… - even ( :-)) a student might apply if he can write and understand asian laguage - we might overlook quite some things

The real topic is that work/school/education has to come fist - not that you may not be a moderator.
In Vietnam, Bit Torrent still is strange to many people, they want to download files directly, not sharing them.
Another reason to get a moderator with one of asian's language-knowledge, or at least someone who can translate some of our texts but I won't tell them - would'nt want to scare you off

…you need more Asian mods to help spread Bit Torrent in Asia.
Invitation to apply still stands, seriously.
-
Tom and I decided that it would be best not to have students as moderators because of the school work issue.
HOWEVER, if you think you can handle being a mod, without affecting your education, then feel free to apply.

-
I totally agree with Tom and raphjd that if you are a student, that is enough of a burden. You only have one shot at your education, so don't go putting obstacles in the way of maximizing that opportunity! You would not have the time to spend on the site that we would expect and do justice to your education at the same time.
