Catalina OS torrent manager
-
Transmission works fine for me.
-
Cheers, been doing some googling and reddit users in the same boat are recommending qbittorrent as having the closest functionality to utorrent.

I'm unsure if you have researched or tried other bit torrent client options for MAC. I'm sure there are several out there. We all have our preferred clients (mine is BiglyBT, as I've stated elsewhere - and it's fantastic and offers a MAC version), but uTorrent just seems like it's been being reported by members more often than not as to having problems for them.
-
To be fair, i had uTorrent for about 10 years and never really had a problem until they decided to go browser based and given the reduced functionality, it just isn't for me.
I went for qBittorrent in the end. So far so good…..

I've upgraded to Catalina and started using Transmission. I'm quite happy with it; I wish I had switched to Transmission sooner.

I've always found Transmission to work the best with MAC.

Could someone please recommend a good torrent manager, which is a standalone client, not browser based and that has similar features and functionality to old uTorrent but is Catalina compatible, 64 bit.
I've been using Transmission for years with almost no problems and upgraded to Catalina when it came out without a hitch.
The only issue that I have with it is that I have to manually "verify the local data" on all downloads because sometimes a torrent will show as complete when it is really 99.5% or more. If a torrent is affected by that, I verify the data again after allowing it to complete and once or twice the torrent has still not been 100% complete. I'm not sure why that happens or even if it is a unique problem to Transmission but it's no big deal so I don't worry about it.

I am too stuck with utorrent for many years, after upgrade I dug out my old pc and have been running utorrent there since.

Transmission sucks. I can't use utorrent anymore, so I've tried your suggestion, but is the thing serious? Downloading one file may be ok, but what if you have folders with multiple files? I've added a torrent and see the folder, but I can't see the files in it. It downloads the whole thing when i only want specific files downloaded at a time.
I can only choose which files to download ONCE when I add the torrent. And even then I can't download one file, and then the second, third and so on. It downloads all the chosen files at the same time.
So if I want to download one file, and then download another one afterwards, I can't just select it like I would normally do with utorrent.
I have to redownload the whole torrent and then it takes some time for the torrent to start and that's very inconvenient. -

I have to redownload the whole torrent and then it takes some time for the torrent to start and that's very inconvenient.Transmission > Preferences > Transfers > Adding > Add window > Display a window when opening a torrent file
Then you can choose which files to download from a multi-file torrent. You can't specify a sequence for multiple files but you can change the priority for each file to high or low.
I don't understand the situation you are describing in which you have to "redownload the whole torrent". I have always been able to go back and check off additional files in a multi-file torrent at a later time without any difficulty.
Perhaps you are using the web interface? That may explain some of the issues you report. I use the software installed on a Mac.
As far as obvious advantages, Transmission is open source software and doesn't have ads or a history of third parties bundling it with malware and other security issues like μTorrent. It is unrealistic to expect it to be a replica of other software with the exact same features. Perhaps try exploring the various preference settings and using it for a while before concluding that it "sucks".
