You don't have to prove you are legally able to vote in order to register to vote or actually vote.

"Motor voter" automatically registers ALL people with a driver's license.  Texas, for example, let's illegals get state id and driver's licenses, as do other states.  Of course, liberals don't understand the problem that causes.

Why do liberals love illegals so much?  I just don't get it.  Do you love forgers too?

Why do you hate those who go the legal route?

Why is the US flag ok to burn, but you'd never burn a Mexican flag.

Mexico is much harsher on illegals than the US, yet you never cry about Mexico oppressing illegals.

I can't speak for other liberals, but personally, my grandparents were immigrants.  They came legally, of course.  But a lot of the backlash against illegals in not based in the law, but in a form of nationalism that promotes WASPs as the only true Americans.  I also think we all resent Trump's unfounded claim that he lost the popular vite because of illegals.

AFIK, you are wrong about not having to prove you are legally able to vote:  The motor-voter law in California works like this:
"When people go to the DMV to obtain or renew a driver's license, or to get a state identification card, they’ll be asked for the usual information in such transactions, such as their name, date of birth and address. They’ll also be asked to affirm their eligibility to vote and will be given the choice of opting out of registering at that time. Information about anyone who does not decline registration will be electronically transmitted from the DMV to the secretary of state’s office, where citizenship will be verified and names will be added to the voter rolls. "

The responsibility of verifying citizenship lies with the Secretary of State, not with the individual voter.  Secretaries of Sates from around the country have said that there is now widespread voting by non-citizens

I don't care where someone is from, as long as they are legal.  If I obey the law, so should you.  Remember, we had to leave the US because illegals got priority in the queue and my husband's green card wouldn't be finished in time, even though he applied on the very first day he was legally allowed to.  He got pushed back for illegals.

AFIK, you are wrong about not having to prove you are legally able to vote:

I'm not wrong, you even say so after this.

What exactly does California do to check the citizenship of voters?    It sounds top secret.

If we can't trust the federal government, how can we trust them?

The responsibility of verifying citizenship lies with the Secretary of State, not with the individual voter.  Secretaries of Sates from around the country have said that there is now widespread voting by non-citizens.

The EPA was supposed to make sure lead pipes were removed from use 40 years ago.  The EPA is supposed to test every mains water supply at least once every 2 years.  The EPA is supposed test new mains water supplies every 6 months for the first 2 years.

          Flint, MI

          enough said  :cool2:

You are exacerbating. You repeatedly say that you want all of us to obey the law, but don't trust the government to enforce it.  That leads back to anarchy, not a law and order society.

I imagine that secretaries of state verify citizenship in the usual way, by confirming place of birth or naturalized citizen status.  That should not be difficult, because for those born in the state, the state itself maintains the birth records. There is no such thing as a federal birth certificate.  I really am unclear on what your point is?  Are you suggesting that the secretaries of state do not check and just rubber-stamp the DMV record?

I was just saying that the EPA enforces water quality laws, even in Flint, MI.  :crazy2:

Are you suggesting, then, that the federal government enforce voting law, which for the most part, are laid down by the states?
The EPA was enforcing (or not) Federal water quality laws.
There are a. handful of federal voting laws which the federal government could endeavor to enforce, but FBI agents at polling places would be a very bad optic.

Conservatives don't understand what a problem it is when illegals have to live in the shadows because they are afraid.  I live in a sanctuary city in a primarily immigrant neighborhood.  It's always been an immigrant neighborhood.  It was Irish and Italian and now it's mainly people from South and Central America.

The primary reason we are a sanctuary city is because it's what law enforcement wanted.  Police were not able to do their jobs when people wouldn't cooperate as witnesses or even come forward to report a crime due to fear of deportation.  We had courts just letting criminals roam free because the only witness wouldn't come testify.  These cities are safer places because of their sanctuary status.  You can live in denial all you want.  I  live in one of these neighborhoods.  It's full of people just living their lives and doing their jobs.

If the illegals are so afraid.. why don't the go back to the country they came from?  They are here ILLEGALLY!
Many years ago, I went to England.  I wound up staying there for 9 months.  I had not intended on staying there so long, but circumstances changed.  While there, I tried to get legitimate employment.  Forget that!  They require a work permit.  So.. I go to get a work permit from the Home Office.  To get a work permit, one has to leave England, go home to the USA, file for a work permit (which requires that nobody else is available for the job) and wait 6 months before re-entering England!  Meanwhile, someone in Mexico can just walk right into the USA, go to work, and get a driver's license - which gives them the ability to vote without having their citizenship checked.  How convenient for them!
Try going to some place like North Korea or Iran and see how long you last.  In Iran, they would hang you up by your balls and slit your throat.  In North Korea, they would torture you and give you a chemical lobotomy.

Umm, if they were in the country legally, they'd have nothing to fear.

                      Just sayin'.

We need comprehensive immigration reform . Perhaps we should increase quotas for legal immigration.  Many illegals ar employed in low=paying manual labor jobs that no American citizen wants.  It is also been reported that the crime rate among illegals is actually less than the general population.  They should get a chance at citizenship like all immigrant waves that preceded them

For many of  them it's much scarier where they came from.  They just come here to work and make a living and keep their head down.

I suppose that isn't the case for all of them though.  An illegal immigrant was just deported from Boston.  He had been here for many years.  He worked and was well respected in the community.  This is the case for a lot of people but this man was a bit different in terms of what we normally hear about.  He is IRISH.  Apparently there are 6000 illegal Irish immigrants living in my state and 50K nationwide.  I have no idea why they would choose to overstay their Visas.  I have no idea what the immigration process entails  for someone from Ireland but it must not be all that easy.
