      @Frederick:

      @flozen:

      While it appears that most (of the dwindling number of) posters in Politics & Debate would like to see more civility, I'm afraid that the discussion has been sidetracked by all the back and forth about one poster's choice of graphics.

      I was hoping that the thread would open a discussion on HOW to actually achieve more civility.  The current, largely unmanaged and consequence-free state of affairs here is unlike any I have encountered on other gay sites (torrent or otherwise) that engage in political discourse.

      Is it any wonder that so few GT members choose to participate here?

      That is nonsense.   This "Politics & Debate" group has far more participation that any of the other groups other than "Sex & Relationships", "Jokes", and "Chit Chat" which are all generic groups.
      The liberals are being called out for their misinformation, bias, and outright lies so much that they are growing weary of posting volumes of new garbage.  That is why the activity drops.  If they can't have it their way - they stomp their feet and go home, like spoiled little children.

      Misinformation, bias and outright lies are so much the core of your tiring, repetitive responses that for you to place these qualities on others is simply a howler.   :cheesy2: :cheesy2:  It's more useful for us to return to the thread's topic: Civility.

      And since you were largely successful in this post – we can all take the hit of "spoiled little children" -- you might be heading in the right direction.  Or, is this just the rare moment of success for the broken clock, which is correct twice a day?

        Being civil is a two-way street.  You my dear, are hopeless.  You could start by douching the sand out of your vagina.
        I would suggest you post your own comments rather than attacking me personally, because you have zero chance of winning that battle.

          This civility thing is essentially blue states vs red states.

            Finally starting to see some toning down on here but the name calling is still too heavy. There is a huge difference in saying an idea or suggestion or piece of legislation is evil or disgusting and calling people childish names. If someone calls out an idea, suggestion or piece of legislation, then it doesn't mean that person is attacking you for supporting said idea, suggestion or piece of legislation. They are simply stating they view the idea, suggestion or piece of legislation as evil or disgusting. How about instead of childish names, we discuss why we oppose or support the idea, suggestion or piece of legislation? This constant name calling is pathetic. Claim and defend your arguments, ideas and views. This shouldn't be hard to do if you truly believe in what you say.

              Agreed, and agreed.  There has been some reduction in inflammatory remarks – one very satisfying change is the elimination of "tard" as a suffix in describing other posters.

              But for all of us in the pro-civility ranks, I would just advise, there will be ongoing efforts from our most aggrieved and immature members to push back on these hard-fought gains.  A fine example occurred yesterday, when one poster began a poll, where he gave us a choice of three childlike slurs that could be used, in lieu of "tard," to describe liberals:

              https://community.gaytor.rent/index.php?topic=50277.0
              "Instead of Libt***, what new word?"

              Now, I would have hoped that this thread be locked at the first sight of the headline, because it proudly reveals that it's nothing more than a gathering for name-calling, with no interest in proper political debate.  In any event, once the thread was reported to the moderator, it was locked immediately, and I extend my thanks.

              So what's the takeaway from my experience?  If you see something that violates GT forum guidelines on civility and content, report the thread, post, etc., directly to our moderator.  It is especially helpful if you add a few lines describing why you believe it is in violation, as well as the sections from GT's Rules of Conduct that apply.

              Don't count on others to do it for you.  Better that all civil members of Politics & Debate contribute through reporting frivolous, mean-spirited and off-topic threads and posts.  In this manner, the job WILL GET DONE.  Thanks for your time and attention.

                Should we report your blatant lies and spam too?   This post of yours looks like you are inciting a war.   If YOU have a problem, you can report all you like.. but inciting OTHER people to report things is incitement, and probably one of the biggest no-no's in any forum.

                  The reason for the toning down is simple.  DrWas hasn't posted anything in a week.

                    :police: Don't report lies.  prove them wrong.    Unless those lies are directed at another user, like "you called me a faggot nigger".  Then the accuser needs to prove it or face punishment.

                    Mods specifically assigned to the forums (as opposed to torrent mods), global mods and above can see all versions of a post.  So post editing won't help you.    :police:

                      In the long run, the moonbats destroy their own credibility, which is why the dark lord of the moonbats hasn't posted in over a week.  The moonbats just make things up, with little or no credible sources.  I tend to always provide links to what I'm referencing.

                        Yes, I did read the administrator's response, and was hoping you'd realize that the key concept – "reporting lies" -- appeared twice:  first in your remarks, and then in his advice to instead prove it.  And that is the connection -- you.

                          This is really a dumb poll. Quit being crybabies. Just because someone doesn't agree with you and thinks your stupid doesn't mean they're uncivil. Have you ever seen a movie with the young Padawan or the young apprentice who's wiser counterpart didn't test him? You just want everyone to agree with you and pet you like a princess. It's not real. That's not how life works.

                            This has nothing to do with getting people to agree with each other 100% of the time, it's about getting people to defend their arguments without childishness and flaming posts. What you just posted is a perfect example of that mhorndisk. No, we are not crybabies. I have agreed with others on here who do not share my views on a lot of issues and of course I've also disagreed with them; but lately I have been mindful of how I disagree with them. After realizing NO ONE in this forum was getting anywhere by constant name calling and irrational bickering, I decided to call for more civility; not a call for everyone to agree with me. We can agree and disagree with each other without being uncivil. The constant name calling on both sides has to end and if you're not willing to do that, then you are a part of the problem. Why can't you form an argument without deflection and childishness? We are adults mhorndisk, not middle school children.

                              I hate having to say this again, but this isn't going to work if we continue to come at each other assuming bad intentions every single time we reply to one another. We all need to pitch in and make at least a tiny effort to bring more civility to this forum, and we can start by not automatically assuming the absolute worst about one another. I did not create this thread to "get everyone to agree with me." One reason why I created this thread is because everyone on this site, including the ones who do not participate in this forum, know for a fact that this forum is toxic and needs a turnaround so that more people will want to participate. You're lying to yourself if you believe this forum has been effective at anything other than being petty and as uncivil as possible at times.

                                Actually, all the complaints have come from liberals wanting to ban "wrong thinkers", such as myself.      They want a bike lock liberal echo chamber.

                                Not surprisingly, most of the complaints about this section are from people who freely admit they have never read anything posted here.  They are only complaining based on the titles of the threads and deeming it a white supremacist haven.

                                    Go ahead, thanks to Obama's pathetic attempt at race baiting the issue, we found out Ferguson is no where as bad as claimed.

                                    100 FBI agents and 20,000 pages of reports showed the only lie came from blacks who claimed "hands up, don't shoot" and Michael Brown dindu nuffin.

                                        Michael Brown was a "clean kill".  The FBI proved this.

                                        While I haven't finished the whole report, what I have read doesn't make Ferguson any different than any other police department.

                                        The report also ignores factors that influence actions by the PD, courts and city.

                                          Was this really necessary, raphjd? I hope you're not suggesting every black person speaks this way because I do not and I don't know anyone who does. Please reconsider these kinds of actions in your future responses. I'm all for free speech, you know this, but that was clearly in poor taste.
