I'm tempted to look up all the songs listed but I'm afraid i'd get too emotional and choke up.
Just adding that after I saw a fan video of Sugababes Too Lost In You featuring the maker mashing up scenes from Brokeback Mountain, I just have to hold back tears.
Oh, I love Adam Levine's Lost Stars but Kiera's version gets me down, haha. I guess it's the singers context. Lauper's True Colors was in the recent Trolls movie and that was pretty good.

Well, that's the reason I like more the version of Keira: it's more honest and relatable. The version of Adam is just another random pop song that people hear to dance and “feel happy”, when you should try to pay attention to the lyrics instead…

a decent amount of Blue October songs (my fav band)
not sure if any other song has had quite an impact like
Nothingman by Pearl Jam -
Most songs off this album
Al Green – I'm Still In Love With You

_I am not a very religious person but this song always gets me
Brother Sun, Sister Moon - Donovan_

I can't pick a particular song that made me cry, its depends on my mood. For instance, I remembered when I listened to Adele's Someone Like You, I wept because at the time the man that I liked chose other over me, but now I listens to that song and just fine with it.
At the moment, song that makes me cry is Mariah Carey - All I Ever Wanted
-
say something- a great big world ft christina aguilera, masterpiece! deep but not overromantic, like other songs. Simple and touching at the same time!
-
I Cry Too - Bob Geldof
Drive - The Cars
Lucky Man - Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Father and Son - Cat Stevens -
I just remembered one recently: The Gravy Train - St. George's Way
I cried listening to this not long after my dad died last year. That was the only time I've ever actually cried over his passing. I didn't feel the lyrics necessarily reflected the event, but they are very existential, and they remind(ed) me of how fleeting everything is, and how much time has already been lost. -
Dance me to the end of love. I first heard it covered by The Civil Wars. Then I listened to the original version by Leonard Cohen. Both are great, very moving and make me emotional..

Based just on the song by itself–not considering anything with an associated factor such as a film, or particular event or moment--there are some pieces by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir that immediately come to mind.
They may not always bring the tears, but they always bring heavy sighs and goose bumps.

Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing definitely is by far my favorite, and as mentioned in other forum posts–I never get tired of it, and hearing it always has me sighing at least a couple of times as it plays, and always a big one as the orchestra is building up and those violins start taking off…sigh, and then–the chorus returns…mm! (In spite of being partial, I have to admit–I do love Brigham Young University’s presentation as well!)…

Better known for their fast tracks, this song by Erasure really packs a punch because of the lyrics.
Erasure: When I Needed You
Youtube VideoAnother is this song, for when you ever have a loved one who has to leave.
Chantal Kreviazuk: Leaving On A Jet Plane

Sugarland's Stay is very emotional - especially when watching the simple music video too. And also Faith Hill's There You'll Be, but mostly due to its significance to a life event

I was born just beyond the American Economic Depression, so didn't feel the intensity of the tragedy, but lived with the fall out.
Here's a quick timeline of that era:

Nocturne “Live” (1995) Secret Garden
I loved this the first time I heard the studio recording years ago and this was my first time hearing the “live” version.
Usually liking the studio stuff over the live, this live recording was a pleasant surprise in that I liked it as much, if not more than the studio one.
That violin…is…um…well, it’s just something–definitely moving.

“Live” performance…
Music video (kind of cheesy, but probably didn’t seem as much when it first came out over 20 years ago)…

Ellis' song, "Nocturn" reminded me of a totally different, but equally beautiful piece by Yanni, "Nightingale" as offered here:

From the cheer up song thread, Katy Perry's Teenage Dream makes me sad but not cry. It's more lost time.
The first song from the Last Unicorn movie was so beautifully illustrated, it made me tear up too. Sung my America?
