Why would this message come back after I press the reseed request on an unseeded torrent?

Because there is no member left in the database having completed the download. All completed downloads prior to 2013 are purged from the database.
You can write the Helpdesk and we'll try to revive it.

I am sure the helpdesk has more important things to do…besides, I've forgotten which torrent I was after
