Yes, I like the series as well. I think that doing magic depends on specific hand movements works very well visually. And the gay relationship in it was well-done, though dark.
I am also waiting for the 2nd season. I am glad there is a 2nd season.
Have you read the books? "The Magicians" and "The Magician King"?
Also, the main character played by Jason Ralph is also in the gay-related movie "Those People" (2015) which is on this site for download somewhere.

I really enjoyed the books. They can be dark at times though. There is a third book out "The Magician's Land" but I have not read that one yet. For some reason I thought the TV series was linked to the movies of a similar name, I am definitely doing to seek it out now.
