I think of thongs and G-strings as 'Attitude underwear'. Its a way for a guy to say: "I am submissive. And my underwear choice is reflective of that. Something minimal. Something flimsy". Interesting. Have to think about that. For me, coming from Switzerland / Germany and having lived in Florida - jockstraps were associated with alpha males into sports. But I see your point. I have seen in porn from studios like Treasure Island Media where the sub btm being taken by a bunch of guys is in a jockstrap. I had read somewhere that it was because they wanted to hide the dick and balls of the btm because very often these btms for studios like machofucker and TIM have diseases….or a really small cock...

That's been a confusing sentiment for me as I've looked into trying wearing one. Originally, they were for "jocks" –  athletic guys who'd require them for aggressive activities (typically alpha-like men, like you said).  But then it eventually became preferable for bottoms to wear for easier access (like what's said above as well). So it's like whatever, lol...
Anyway, I've always had mixed feelings about these types of undies. They can definitely be sexy on the right kind of guy, but at times I need to let go of its stigma (when it comes to real life) -- the extreme arrogance or sluttiness associated with [some] guys who wear them. But who am I to judge, right?
